If assisted dying is such a popular policy, it begs the question as to why it didn't appear in the Labour Manifesto?

The proposed assisted dying bill has collapsed on itself - less than 18 months after MPs approved it in the House of Commons. Dame Esther Rantzen's daughter, Rebecca Wilcox, told 5 News 'they don't want us to have choice in death.'

"It was a classic filibuster." Lord Charlie Falconer, who led the assisted dying bill through the House of Lords, said the failure of the bill is "terrible." Those who opposed the bill were concerned it included too few safeguards.

@SamanthaTaghoy @kitmalthouse Sorry but they made it about themselves. The bill was so those with terminal illness could choose to end their lives with dignity if they wanted to. Whereas suddenly disabled people like the above were acting as though terminally ill meant disabled. In what world??

The House of Lords has disgraced parliament. Their existence is based on trust, now roundly abused by a small group of unelected zealots. Time for a serious look at who these people are, and how they are allowed to govern us. The X trolls will be jubilant, but we will be back.

"This isn't what democracy looks like." Sponsor of the assisted dying bill, Kim Leadbeater, condemns the failure of the bill as "undemocratic," but assures that there is an appetite to bring back the bill in the next season. trib.al/N9poP3H 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602

@SkyNews Surely democracy is about having more debate about such an important issue? Why was rushing this through a priority?

@SkyNews We’ve been an illiberal democracy for so long that people are confused when a rare moment of liberal democracy happens.
