I gotta say, the scene in Emilia Perez where pre-transition Emilia reveals to Zoe Saldaña’s character that she has boobs is zero percent done like a horror movie, there’s no disgust or big reaction, just a half second of surprise before they return to business

I laughed! I cried! My trans girlfriend and I both LOVED the vaginoplasty song, it examines transition in a way I’ve never seen on film (trying to escape your past but still being the same person held back by the same flaws no matter how much you change) I love it

Honestly the first time I saw Emilia Pérez I came out of the theaters thinking every trans critic in the world was going to love it and cis critics wouldn’t get the trans themes of how transitioning can’t change who you really are as a person so I’m very surprised by the hate

Can we stop with this frankly transphobic critique saying Emilia Pérez “returns to her male voice” in her fight scene with her wife? I’ve rewatched many times and as a trans woman with a deep voice, it is clear to me that the voice Karla Sofía Gascón uses as Manitas is different
