March For Our Lives Georgetown

Five years ago today, a gunman killed five employees and injured two more at the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis. Journalists are protectors of our democracy, and often experience trauma as they report on gun violence. They should be safe in their workspaces.

You shouldn’t get shot for ringing the wrong doorbell. You shouldn’t get shot for entering the wrong driveway. And you shouldn’t get shot for getting in the wrong car. This is the country the gun industry has created. And too many Americans are shot because of it.

On Jan. 24, two men from Young Americans for Liberty, neither of whom were Georgetown affiliated, were removed by GUPD after distributing pro-gun pamphlets and gathering student information in Red Square. Read more about the incident: georgetownvoice.com/2023/01/25/gup…

This year, we voted for our lives. Now, it's time for the Senate to do what THEY said they'd do. Our senators took an oath to protect us. We need to apply pressure and remind them that blood is on their hands each day we silently wait. #BanAssaultWeaponsNow

Let's be clear: people with mental health disabilities are no more likely to commit acts of gun violence than anyone else. Let’s break the stigma that gun violence is driven by people with mental health disabilities. #disabilityawarenessmonth

Remember, the shooter who just killed 5 people at a July 4 parade didn't act alone. He was assisted by 50 Senators, 210 House members, and the NRA.

We stand unequivocally with our friends at @HyasForChoice. Repro justice includes the right to parent; gun violence steals that right from thousands of parents annually. We will fight back against this extremist, hypocritical court. Women deserve more rights than guns.

Some people forget, we’re just kids. We deserve lives not dedicated to ending gun violence. We’re demanding action so the next generation doesn’t have to deal with this bullshit.

Rereading my testimony from 2019 for a subcommittee of Homeland Security against school militarization and my heart broke when I read my last few lines. The kids from Texas are less than half my age.
