Here on the Florida coast, there is a big effort to keep the beaches dark and for buildings near the beach to only use red and amber wavelengths for outdoor lighting. This is because artificial lighting is highly disruptive to sea turtle biology, especially white/blue light. One day I hope we will also recognize the harmful impact white/blue wavelengths have on humans and will have more sensible nighttime lighting wavelengths, including a return to the type of car headlights that don’t blind oncoming drivers.
