@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 Then if they are "not welcome in gaming fandoms" who cares
English

accessibility also includes not having a computer to emulate btw
˖ ݁✦☾ woke gloomy ☾✦ ݁˖@gnlune
many reasons 1. accessibility 1a. money 1b. age 1c. platform/device 1d. region 1e. game is not on market 2. enjoyment 2a. game is more story than gameplay 2b. gameplay is lackluster/not necessary 3. previewing before buying 4. etc who are you to be policing?
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD Great analogy(!) Mind dissecting what exactly equates to which in terms of aspects of a movie and a videogame? I'd say the script of a movie is closer to the code of a videogame, since you don't hold the script when watching a movie and don't see the code when playing a game!
English

@mhmtmnnr @cressuhime @SNK_LRD Yo yeah I just read the script to this movie and understood the themes so I’m a fan now! Did I completely miss out on most of the experience and the way it was intended to be consumed? Yep! I honestly don’t understand why you couldn’t just think the game looked cool, like it’s ok
English

@chokeupnow @Awooo56709 There's americans saying bs like "an average phone can run most games" on the tl but sure we'll just pretend that you have to play fnaf to be a fan of fnaf
English

@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 “people who don’t play the games and only pretend to for validation aren’t welcome in fandoms” yeah?
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD No, I didn't watch the video in the way you imagined I did! I engaged with the game's by understanding it and viewing it as it played out! This might not be how you engage with a video of a game and it's not something I equate to playing the game but it's a way to be a fan!
English

@mhmtmnnr @cressuhime @SNK_LRD Again, everything you’re describing here is thinking the game looked cool, you weren’t a fan of it because you hadn’t played it yet. That’s like watching a trailer and seeing cool mechanics so you call yourself a fan of the game, it just makes no sense.
English

@varietypaul @Awooo56709 Very convenient that you suddenly are very inexplicit with "share their opinions on games". Of course I wouldn't agree with them making statements on gameplay but simply being a fan of I would dare to say MOST games doesn't require explicit understanding of the buttons you press.
English

@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 The entire discourse is based on people who join gaming communities and share their opinions on games they haven't played, only watched. It is a perfect analogy.
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD You are reframing my "fan-ness" to be about the "let's play" rather than the game itself when I explicitly state that the GAME is what I was a fan of. I was a fan of the play scenarios it created with vaulting windows and using LOS: aspects of the GAME itslef not the let's play
English

@mhmtmnnr @cressuhime @SNK_LRD How is what I said petty semantic I said watching it doesn’t make you a fan? Also yeah if you acknowledge they aren’t the same, then how can’t you acknowledge that both don’t make you a fan
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD If I was a fan of the let's plays and not the game itself I wouldn't crave to play the game, this is blatantly obvious. Petty semantics don't bring you or me closer to truth
English

@mhmtmnnr @cressuhime @SNK_LRD See this is where this argument gets weird cause like, NO ONE is saying let’s plays are bad it’s just not playing the game, you though dead by daylight looked cool and were a fan of lets plays of it, but you weren’t a fan of the game until you played it
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD game where doing so is enough to warrant calling yourself a fan. I don't think someone who watches playthroughs should comment on the gameplay of a game but that doesn't make them "larpers" or "not a fan".
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD DbD isn't a good example but I'm just trying to make it clear that I'm not the "I would rather watch a video" guy you think I am. I'm genuinely trying to make a point about how videogames can be experienced and appreciated. Watching videos is not perfect but there are SO many +
English

@varietypaul @Awooo56709 You based your entire analogy on a strawman. I never claimed that people who don't play the games they're a fan of should be talking about gameplay. A better analogy along the lines of your bad faith attempt would be a guy really into fishes talking about fish with a fisher.
English

@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 I don't have the money to buy fishing equipment but I like watching other people fish. Now let me tell you my opinions on fishing and how to do it properly
You are classist and ableist if you think my opinion is invalid
English

@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 "Gaming fandoms" is not the end goal of playing games
English

@WallyWestEnd @Awooo56709 I am not using poor people as shields I played undertale on my samsung tablet by installing a controller overlay but I couldn't play TLOU in any feasible way so I watched it and was a fan of both. Maybe not to the same degree and comprehention sure, but a fan nonetheless.
English

@mhmtmnnr @Awooo56709 Stop using poor people as your shields. You guys just want to be parts of fandoms without making any effort to engage with it.
English

@Jack_Clark027 @cressuhime @SNK_LRD A game is not the buttons you press. It's the rules and systems that bring up a dynamic of play. "press to shoot guy" is no different to flipping a book's page in SO many popular story driven action games. That's not gameplay informing narrative
English

@mhmtmnnr @cressuhime @SNK_LRD Yo are we being serious? Every video game uses gameplay to deliver plot or else it’s a movie?? And yeah the shoot guy button is usually used to kill someone that moves the plot forward, or you have to shoot a lot of guys which is difficult so it makes reaching more plot feel good
English
