APEX 24.2 will be the longest we've had to wait for an xx.2 release in a calendar year, surpassing #orclapex 23.2 released on 14 Nov 2023.

@oraclebase It depends on what is being done. Some of the new windows AI features will require specialist hardware. I haven’t looked too closely because. Vapourware!

@mib1906 I don't think so. It's using a model, not training it. The training is where most of the heavy lifting is required.

When did Oracle support become so bad? I raised an SR. APEX built in package is not working. Response. Can you reproduce the error by not using that package and hand coding instead? Um. No! Thought it might be better with an APEX related SR.

@thatjeffsmith How do you know what people are using? I rarely allow software to submit usage stats. And never at work. Bad usage stats is how we ended up with tiny cut and enourmous paste buttons on the MS ribbon.

@oraclebase I think we’ve seen the last on-prem release with 19c .

Larry Ellison's keynote is over. No mention of on-prem 23ai. Just one sentence and making a download available would have been everything!

@Mirela_RoOUG I wonder what the source of this figure is? The slide isn’t giving one so I’m assuming it is a made up number. Or something much creepier.

@oraclebase Why do I think that by the time it is available it will be 24 and the ai hype will be over and we can just call it 24l(ate)

@CambsDiabetes Shower thought. Why is bedside CGM for HCPs not standard practice? Maybe it is but never heard anyone talk of it. Even when talking about T1 care .

I am reliably informed that my use of "broo" as the plural for "broo" in #Glorantha is incorrect, and I am unrepentant - it's like "sheep," right. In my Glorantha anyway! (Don't ask me what year it is. Seriously. Don't.)

@GBDocInfo Initially diagnosed as type 1 . Last consultant doesn’t think I am , but DNA tests came up with nothing . So official diagnosis is currently “dunno, treat as T1 coz that works”. Current consultant is errrrr sub-optimal. Sticking with T1 to not rock boat.

@SQLRockstar It’s not the same. The summary has the air of authority. The same data presented differently conveys different information. Cf lies, damn lies and statistics.

For 20+ years, people did an internet search and just trusted the results as truth. But the minute you start returning results with AI models, suddenly everything is scrutinized. Search results have always been the result of an algorithm and have always been suspect.

@drsql @SQLRockstar From what I’ve read. It is the first few results just summarised by a statistical model. So garbage in garbage out. Can’t check hasn’t made it across the pond yet.

@SQLRockstar Really? I honestly feel like I use it the same way, with AI being the first result. I read it, and then I search on for corroboration. I honestly trust it more than I trust the first few results most of the time...

@milnermaths Board games of my youth were a niche nerdy pass time and boy did they pass a lot of time . Risk, Diplomacy, Civilisation would be for a lazy Sunday. Something happened (Catan ?) modern games are much shorter and popular and mainstream. Do RPGs need that too
