This has happened to me twice. Called HMRC after 3pm, obviously on hold for 20-30 minutes before someone speaks to you. Both times call handlers with Liverpudlian accents. They work out that your call is going to take them close to or past 4pm (clocking off time I guess) and just cut you off. You don’t get a name and you’ve got zero chance of calling back and getting the same person. No accountability Zero effort No respect for the taxpayers who fund their costly little lives. It all needs clearing out.

After 39 minutes on hold I have got through to HMRC to talk about erroneous interest charge on my self assesement. I can hear a baby in the background. After she spent 22 mins investigating, I was advised to write in as she couldn't help. This is simply not good enough.
