What a fantastic few days… On Friday I was delighted to hear that I have been accepted onto the 2024/25 UEFA Pro License course, continuing my coach education journey with the English FA. Then on Sunday we were crowned African Champions in the inaugural African Football League

@Coach_Corleone There are days where there would be 5/6 wrong decisions before VAR. Yes, there is room for improvement, but to say get rid of it is just asking for an increase in wrong decisions. Which contradicts the complaint of wrong decisions.

@DKS_football Rules have to be specific. It can’t be a few inches. If you said 3 inches, what about when its 3.5 inches? There has to be specific rule. The whole body is also then a problem. What about when the whole body is ahead of the defender but an arm isn’t?

@michael_loftman A gap of a few inches. Or as the rule states the player is in front of the 2nd last defender. Therefore a toe, finger or bootlace wouldn’t be offside. The whole body would need to be. 🤷‍♂️ can’t be that complicated and would be easier to define than the current shambolic attempts

@Coach_Corleone There is statistically a significant decrease of incorrect final decisions since VAR was introduced.

The issue is the fact that there are alot of wrong decisions even with VAR, which leaves the question of "what's the point?"

@DKS_football So what is your suggestion? How exactly do you define daylight so that it is equal across all matches.

@michael_loftman What’s wrong with the old “daylight” rule. A clear gap between players. A toe, finger or bootlace can not mean you are offside.

@michael_loftman I would give them 30 seconds to look at it. If they can’t decide in that time then it’s not a clear and obvious error. Decision on the pitch stands.

Spent the morning analysing goals conceded by teams across the world yesterday. The general common trend is still basic errors: 1. Strategies when Defending Set Pieces 2. A Lack of Clear Communication 3. Preventing & Dealing with Crosses 4. Turnovers in Critical Areas & Moments

Evening @michael_loftman, I hope you are well. Shooting a shot here, would you be able to point me in the right direction to give some young players (15-19 year olds) a chance to be scouted or trial somewhere near Kempton Park? They deserve a shot.
