@Stretchedwiener Absolutely. I have videogames on my shelf from the mid 90s and i can remember the store i bought them in, what the weather was like when i played them, all kinds of random stuff. I associate games with particular times. Helps to internally organise my own memiries.

For people with memory and time processing disfunction, having the room lined with reminders of the past is extremely helpful.

@ScottMcCreaWest I've had to reduce my physical library a few times, giving away thousands of books. It's painful. I've replaced a lot of them on Kindle, but it's not the same. A physical book is an artifact that evokes memories of where, when and even who you were when you read it.

@GrahamC47 Meanwhile, kids are still kids - they dont have much money, and will still have a lot fewer titles than an adult with disposable income. Thats why younger players are more involved with 'forever' games like fortnite, roblox etc.

@GrahamC47 I'm still a 'gamer' as I hit 40, but as an adult, I play a lot less than when younger. Same story for a lot of people - that aint news.
I keep buying games I'll never get round to playing, and a fallout style RPG will take me 2+ years to complete, IF I ignore everything else.

There’s an idea that people are aging out of gaming en masse, and I don’t really understand it. The average age of the person playing video games has only continued to go up. Which probably isn’t great for the industry, but cuts against this.

Gonna be a dark day when we finally get a Fallout New Vegas sequel in like 3-4 years and it underperforms because everyone waited too long and the demographic that adored NV has just aged too far out of gaming to play a full length RPG.

@michaelarby_art @novelezra when you play a game on dolphin the emulator you are kind of limited by how the game was in said console, while a native port of a game (i havent tried dusklight but should be applicable), usually allows things like unlocked framerate, mods for better UI, maybe even kbm support

If you watch the video the dev posted, he explains why he used AI and it's fascinating. This is the future of preservation.
Like it or not as companies shut down more games, AI will be needed to fight back.

@michaelarby_art This is a very complicated question with a very easy answer.
Play Twilight Princess via Dolphin, then play it via Dusklight.
And you will immediately understand why decomp/recomp is one of the greatest things we have in gaming tech right now. It's genuinely magical.

@setti @novelezra I do see your point, and i suppose setting up emulators can be a bit of a chore that this might avoid, if download and installation isnt more complex than that.

@michaelarby_art @novelezra same thing vice versa, if you had a game and you had the choice between setting it up on an emulator, or playing the native pc version, assuming there's no difference between the two, which one are you going to play?
no point in emulating when you can just launch it as is.

Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is one of the two most perfect comedy shows ever made and what pushes it into the Godlike tier is Channel 4 declined a second series because it was too expensive to make (they were using authentic 80s equipment and film)

@Abyssrhythm @airrrrrick1 IU is an actual Gem of a game. Definitely only a 7/10, but has a lot of character and a lot to enjoy.
I played it last year and could see its potential if it was remade with just a bit more polish!
Definitely worth a play.

@millhist @ellycelly I could believe that. Stand ins are lile elevated extras, and much closer to the higher up crew than a lot of extras would be.

@michaelarby_art @ellycelly A stand in for one of the Harry Potter kids did a podcast and it was “surprisingly“ interesting.

@ellycelly I was actually an extra in GoT, and a few of the extras I worked with were there for a significant portion of the whole shoot.
They could probably do an unofficial podcast and have lots to talk about.

@ellycelly Its maybe just not old enough yet. A lot of rewatches are for either short comedies like parks and rec, the office, or for longer stuff that debuted maybe around 2000.
