Surge Protocol — Week 11. 10.24 BTC locked. New all-time high, +29.6% W-o-W.
Last week's dip was a customer exit. This week's high is new ones locking in.
One more thing last week earned: our app authentication service had a brief outage. The protocol stayed up. Taproot vaults, untouched. Existing credit lines, functional. Surge protocol works irrespective of the front-end.
That's the whole point of the two-layer architecture. An application that can go down. A protocol that doesn't.
Audits continue. Heads-down.

App authentication went down. Your Bitcoin didn't.
The app became unusable. The protocol never blinked. No vaults touched, no funds affected, your BTC stayed in its Taproot vault the whole time.
That's not luck. It's architecture. The app is just a window. The protocol lives on Bitcoin.
@yash_belavadi and @michaelborglin break it all down in our new founders' take: the two-layer design, bring-your-own-key, Taproot vaults, BIP-110, and the DCN bridging Bitcoin and Base.
Android is live in the store; iOS is on TestFlight while we clear review.
Watch why an app outage never put a single sat at risk. 👇

The Android Production v1.0.9 is live - you can sign in again.
iOS (TestFlight): testflight.apple.com/join/NKuxdPnc
Android (Production): play.google.com/store/apps/det…
Sign in there as you normally would. Everything else is unchanged - no funds or protocol functions were ever affected; this was a front-end issue only. The earn dashboard at earn.surge.credit has stayed live throughout.
The production update for iOS is still in the review queue. This is likely to take several days.

Tether is the lending capital for Roxom, Strike, Anchorage, and Ledn.
Any Bitcoin-backed lender out there that’s NOT a Tether distributor?

@HumDog64 @whoiss_josh Did ledn promise like 72 hours before liquidating or something?

A 1973 Wikileaks cable shows primary dealers explicitly planned to use gold futures volatility to "diminish initial demand for physical holding and negate long-term hoarding by US citizens."
@chrismartenson reads it in black and white.
English

@2dogs1chic Curious what you think about @surge_credit's model. Newer of course.

Many say Bitcoin is too volatile to use as collateral.
Bitcoin isn’t the problem.
Bad loan terms are the problem.
The lender just needs to design around the asset:
Low LTV.
High liquidation levels.
Real-time monitoring.
Overcollateralization.
Clear margin calls.
No rehypothecation games.
Transparent rates.
Enough borrower buffer for normal Bitcoin drawdowns.
DeFi lending has already figured this out.
Traditional lending has its own problems:
Fed-distorted rates.
Credit cycles.
Gatekeepers.
Slow settlement.
Opaque terms.
Banks lending freely in easy money, then pulling back when people need liquidity most.
Bitcoin is volatile but volatility can be managed with honest loan design.
English

@0059BTC Can help on the liquidation price yet. But checkout @surge_credit on the custody bit.
English

@LoganBitcoinDad Curious, where you got your loan and why?
English

@hodlokeys @surge_credit Yes. After your message, I posted to the team internally.
Post July we will also focus on integrating hardware keys. Teen you can bring your keys to the party with more comfort.
English

@michaelborglin @surge_credit If I lose or damage my phone, can I recover my account on a new device with just my email credentials?
English

@hodlokeys @surge_credit Yes! If you are using the secure enclave then yes, the key is stored in a TEE and is tied to your email address. If you brought your own keys, then you can recover that way.

This week at Surge 👇
We crossed 10 BTC locked. Not custodied, locked. Taproot vaults, unilateral exit, zero rehypothecation. Verifiable on-chain right now.
1️⃣ Mon: release notes, what we shipped
2️⃣ Tue: a deep dive on unilateral exit, the property that makes the rest possible
3️⃣ Wed: why unilateral exit matters to you as a borrower, not just in theory
4️⃣ Thu: 10 BTC, plus maintenance mode while we harden security as part of our audits
Don't trust. Verify. 🟧
