Just thinking about how there's totally going to be people who jump into their first avatar draft today having not looked at the cards yet and think they got so incredibly unlucky to not see and learn cards

Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.

We wrote about an enormous new study that shows that cross-class friendships, perhaps more than anything else, help people climb the income ladder. The study used Facebook data for 84% of U.S. adults ages 25-44, and shows the effect is profound. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Which types of social capital best explain economic mobility? Using data from Facebook, we consider more than a dozen social capital measures and our answers appear in a pair of papers in @Nature: nature.com/articles/s4158… 1/5

@robinhanson I wonder if you’d have gotten similar results switching Nobel Prize for “make the most important contribution in your field this decade”

Her followers differ from mine, in more preferring to be a billionaire than Nobel prize winner, while mine seem to favor the opposite. Yet she's philosopher, I'm economist. So are economists LESS greedy than philosophers?
Agnes Callard@AgnesCallard

Which life would you choose of these 4? some qualifications: billionaire: "self-made," you inherit no wealth philosopher: real philosopher, whatever that means to you, not necc academic philosopher nobel prize: in field of your choosing olympic victor: sport of your choosing

@seanjtaylor On a separate note - why do people always say “I’m humbled” right before announcing some promotion or achievement?

I’m very humbled today to hit *one million* followers! Thank you everybody for your help and your trust in this accomplishment, there’s obviously no need to make even a cursory attempt at verification.

@seanjtaylor Actually Sean there’s a brand risk of people throwing exceptionally lame parties - their model seems to be working great !

Friend and I were each independently blocked by Airbnb from booking a house for a staycation because it's halloween weekend and (vaguely) an algorithm has detected that we're a big risk for parties. Large revenue loss for these false positives -- parties must cost them a lot.

The #NobelPrize committee couldn't reach Paul Milgrom to share the news that he won, so his fellow winner and neighbor Robert Wilson knocked on his door in the middle of the night.

Yesterday @stroebel_econ mentioned some of the neat working using the SCI. I wanted to tell you a little more about one of those papers (which just happens to be mine and happened to be accepted today @restatjournal!) Thanks to everyone who has given feedback!

nytimes.com/2020/09/14/us/… The NYTimes manipulated the Trump quote here, not worth it because the real version is scarier. Their version: "I don’t think science knows” what is happening. Actual exchange: "I don't think science knows" whether the climate will get warmer.
