Congrats to @TuleRiverTribe on the return of 17,030 acres of ancestral land. This land is once again home to the people who stewarded it since time immemorial and as of this week to a herd of Tule elk!
California Natural Resources Agency@CalNatResources

This land return reflects the very best of California, honoring tribal leadership, reintroducing keystone wildlife, and investing to help people and nature thrive together. Huge thanks to our partners @CaliforniaDFW @CaliforniaWCB @ConservationFnd

If the Trump administration chooses to go down this path and sell out our coastal communities to the highest bidder, we will stand firm in our commitment to protecting our coastline and the people of California — as we have for decades. sfchronicle.com/california/art…

ICYMI: "While the largest dam removal project in U.S. history was taking off on the Klamath River last year, members of the Yurok Tribe got to work hand-sowing millions of native wildflower seeds and thousands of trees and shrubs along their soon-to-be revived ancestral waterway. Last week, the tribe announced that the massive revegetation project has already yielded a stunning wildflower show where reservoirs once sat." 🌹🌷🌼 Read more at SFgate: sfgate.com/bayarea/articl…

Everyone remembers that iconic moment when they saw the California coast for the first time. Some grew up near it. Others moved here from afar. But the one constant that rings true for everyone when seeing in real life: you can't look away. Preserving this sense of awe for future generations, the California Coastal Commission @TheCACoast just announced nearly $2M in WHALE TAIL grants for kids and families to relive this moment again and again. Since 1997, nearly 5 million people have benefitted from one-of-a-kind field trips, tours, and classes funded by these incredible grants. Learn more: coastal.ca.gov/whaletailgrant/ @OPC_California

Loved connecting w/ the incredible #30x30CA Partnership Coordinating Committee this week. This appointed committee gives their time & expertise to help conserve 1/3 of the state to protect the places, wildlife & plants that support clean air, water, recreation, agriculture & much more.

🔥 The Karuk Tribe has become the first in the state to enter a groundbreaking agreement that restores their right to practice cultural burning — an Indigenous tradition vital for wildfire prevention, ecosystem health, and tribal sovereignty. For generations, cultural burns have been restricted, but thanks to SB 310, tribes can now reclaim this time-honored practice through government-to-government partnerships. This is a major step toward recognizing Indigenous knowledge in fire management.

EXCLUSIVE: The Karuk Tribe in Northern California has entered a first-of-its-kind agreement with the state to practice cultural burning more freely than they have in over 175 years. My story for @latimes: latimes.com/environment/st…
