@yoavperlman @davlow Yoav, at least one of the birds at the front appears to have black breast markings like a Calandra or Bimac. Is that an artifact of the image?

A Buff-breasted Sandpiper has a stretch. They are the only American species that I have never seen on those continents but have enjoyed 15+ in the UK. One of the most gorgeous birds to grace our islands each year. This afternoon at Eshaness, Shetland. @griffiths_lyn @rafaelmitch

A small group of Barrow's Goldeneye on the River Laxa near Lake Myvatn, Iceland last month. The duck shows her distinctive head shape but I wonder how many are missed in the UK?

Beautiful male Golden-winged Warbler at the “magic hedge” on Chicago’s lakefront this morning. Perhaps one of the birds ABC has been providing habitat for in Wisconsin to our north….

@CleyBirds Steve, I dropped in to Cromer on a lightening trip to Norfolk in July and there were thousands of gulls feeding on what appeared to be Whitebait - huge shoals close to the beach. Lots of Med Gulls and at least one young Caspian among them.

There's been a spectacular melee of up to a thousand gulls feeding close inshore off Cley beach for the past few days. Whatever it is they are feeding on doesn't seem to attracting any of the few terns in the area at all though.

@AlexPenn_1 @FI_Obs Cool. Surely you will eventually get a Wilson’s, Pintail, Swinhoe’s, or Latham’s!

Snipe are moving through @FI_Obs in good numbers now, with the first Jack Snipe starting to trickle through too. 9 Common and a bonus Jack were ringed last night, giving a good chance to compare the two species up close

This beautiful Icterine Warbler was a nice surprise at Gramborough Hill this morning. It skulked out of view for 99% of the time though, so viewing and photography were not easy, at least not while I was there!

@Georgia_Platt_ @FI_Obs Back in the 80s we saw a Great Snipe on Fair Isle. We expected it to be tough after getting a report but found it preening its tail on the edge of a peat cut. A Yellow-breasted Bunting flew in while we were watching it, then a Roller appeared nearby - all in about 10 mins.

Frustratingly brief but convincing views of Great Snipe @FI_Obs late this afternoon - large, dark and pot-bellied with a grunting flight call and a bright white fanned tail when landing. Hopefully tonight's rain keeps it here for more searching tomorrow!

Shout out to Oregon Democrat @RonWyden for introducing this legislation. This should really get bipartisan support. Let’s see who is willing to stand up for birds. @ABCbirds
American Bird Conservancy@ABCbirds

We're feeling hopeful about U.S. grassland birds and their habitats, thx to legislation introduced by @RonWyden. Although half of our grassland birds have been lost since 1970, this legislation will help turn declines around by empowering land stewards. + wyden.senate.gov/news/press-rel…

@lukenashnature @RareBirdAlertUK @georgedunbar_ @danburt31 Nice! I saw the Radipole Lake bird back in the late 70s or early 80s. Jammed in on Ivory Gull at Chesil Beach same day. Hitched from Liverpool, nearly froze, had police dogs set on us after sleeping in a bus. Now I see PBGR on my way to work sometimes since I live in the U.S.! 😎

Distant BOC shot of the White-winged Tern currently at the end of Big Stone Beach Road, Delaware. Foraging over the marsh on the south side of the road right before the beach parking area. Great bird!

@CleyBirds Steve, I remember seeing one back in the late 70s or early 80s from the west bank over near the windmill. I think Enid was there. You may have been too. We all waited and it flew over at dusk as expected!

A superb adult Night Heron here at Cley NWT this afternoon. (It was first seen two days ago, but has been very elusive.) The first I've seen here for 21 years.

@evornithology I thought the vireo sounded too whistly for Red-eyed and the tanager/grosbeak not burry enough for Scarlet Tanager.
