@threenotes_jp Nausicaa, Macross, Starblazers, Voltron... we took any anime we could get in those days. Most of the time badly dubbed or edited. First real anime series not mangled by US TV editing I loved was Bubblegum Crisis and AD Police. Glorious, subtitled, and amazing.

@PulpLibrarian It's gotten better with age. An insane amount of talent guest stars, but the core cast never gets outshined. They don't make them like this one anymore and that's the shame of it.

Oh, and was Coneheads a good movie? It's so long since I watched it I can't remember! I think it was a bit drawn out. I'll watch it again and let you know.

2001: A Space Travesty (2000) is the Leslie Nielsen film everyone forgets. And for good reason: it's terrible. The first half is a riff on various sci-fi movies, from Coneheads to Total Recall, with Nielsen's character Dick Dix trying to find a kidnapped President Clinton on the Moon. The second half is on Earth because they ran out of space jokes. Nielsen is basically Frank Drebin, the jokes are basically aimed at 13 year olds, the plot was pulled together from ideas fished from a wastepaper bin. You should watch it once, because you should always watch Leslie Nielsen, but this is a low point for the movie spoof genre.

@my_back_hurts__ One of the all time great ideas, once again killed by the editing. In their effort to get one extra viewing a day per screen, they cut out most of the character building. The few released deleted scenes add so much to understanding the dynamics. At least the creatures are cool.

@tatumturnup It illustrates the problem with these things perfectly. They're just using motion capture. No sensors tell it where it is or how to deal with the environment. When it slipped, it ran the uppies routine to right itself. Then it literally was in the wrong position and doomed.

This is the greatest video I’ve ever seen. No notes. The lifeless clanker carcass just laying there. No crowd reaction, anything. Just Billie Jean. Until its lifeless shell is shamefully dragged off. Purely amazing.

@Rothmus I still believe in a thing called love... and I loved it from the very first moment my ears heard the intro. Everyone said "It's such a throwback to those old 80's hair bands." Yes, and that ain't a bad thing.

No masterpiece has ever been more hated.

The whole story about the girl who owns the Spyro statue and snapped at the Insomniac director because “they don’t have the rights to Spyro” shows just how little the #Crashbandicoot and #Spyrothedragon fanbases actually know about the series they love.

My cat went missing when I moved in August of 2025. I’ve been missing her dearly.. I had a dream of her last night that left my heart feeling sore so I visited the shelter. My grandma said she’d be fine if I brought her home. Yall think I should go get her?? I’ve only ever had black cats, never a black and white one.
