@lily_scott 1 - These are almost entirely because of FIFA, who runs things, not the US/Canada/Mexico. 2 - This is one of the most successful World Cups of all time and has gathered universal praise.

To most voters, the notion that a highly-skilled person can create more jobs and wealth than they consume is a complete abstraction. They have no firsthand experience in watching it happen. To them, a job is just something a boss either gives to you or to someone else. They don’t know where those jobs came from or how to create more of them. They elect politicians who feed them a simplistic and zero-sum model for how the economy works.

Sigh - the point is not that the *new* units will suddenly be affordable. The point is that any time you add units to a market you incrementally lower the value of every other unit in the market - in the way that pouring a bucket of water into a swimming pool raises the water level.
