@tovarischrex honestly yes, if he contested in the harbour constituency he might have still retained. the area is bereft of development comparatively, plus there’s a stark economic divide between the locals and the NI population. i do understand the locals are actually not happy with him tho.

@mickey_papz Yeah I’ve seen many from Kolathur who aren’t even DMK supporters but are sad bc Stalin did a lot for the constituency. Actually there was a running joke that each year Stalin should pick a different constituency so all of Chennai becomes developed like this.

@tovarischrex obviously not. i think most people expected the DMK to win the whole thing. it also seems very suspect to me that stalin lost kolathur despite making it developed infrastructure wise, and a few RSS karyakartas won seats like thirupurakundram on a TVK ticket.

@mickey_papz And I still don’t think DMK is as hated now as those parties were in Nepal. From the voting percentages it seems like the core DMK base stayed with them and only swing voters went with TVK.

this must be a rude awakening for the CPI(M) who've been swaying towards neoliberalism. you need to have an actual plan to get the youth involved in the party on an organisational level and have them and the party commit to the ideology before we take the ground for elections.

@talalasadist i would equally place this blame on the cpm too, their brand of neoliberalism and its symptoms like appeasement politics did give a chance for the congress to come up. this is all compounded with a rightward shift across the world in general

@talalasadist yh, but the problem arises when demographics come into play unfortunately. for a state that didn’t care about it not too long ago, a lot of forces in this election did boil down to demographical support, which makes the udf landslide here quite unsettling.

we have cattle analyzing elections on all fronts, there is nothing spectacular about UDF leading in Kerala, the UDF-LDF wins are cyclical, and more importantly, keeps the BJP from forming any meaningful opposition
