At a signing ceremony at #COP29Azerbaijan, the COP29 Presidency reaffirmed its support for the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage, moving from pledges to action. This marks an important milestone for the Fund which is now expected to start financing projects in 2025. Prioritizing aid for developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of #climatechange has been a priority for the COP29 Presidency. The @WorldBank accepting the invitation to become the interim secretariat host and trustee of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage is a stride forward for the commitments made during last year's COP28. Fully operationalized and capitalized on the first day of COP28, the fund has total commitments of nearly US$800 million to date. We continue to call on Parties to ensure the fund is robust, resilient and ready to fulfil its mandate. At the fund’s inaugural board meeting last month in Abu Dhabi, board members took important decisions that set strong foundations for its work this year, including electing its first Co-Chairs. It is crucial that the board builds on this momentum at its second meeting in Songdo, South Korea, to ensure the fund is ready to financially support those who need it most and is operationalized by #COP29. #COP28 #LossAndDamage

South Africa has submitted a public dossier to members of the U.N. Security Council of what it refers to as “evidence relating to the State of Israel's intent and incitement to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza". South Africa's Ambassador Mathu Joyini has further called on the UNSC to give effect to the ICJ's provisional measures including that Israel halt its military assault on Rafah, which the latter continues to ignore. #sabcnews
