@JCPHankins It is misconstrued. The ad industry is operating with a stunted and ill defined emotional lexicon which causes homogeneity. Also as you say, we respond with different levels of intensity to everything. DAIVID 39 below as a helpful start

The whole "emotional" ad thing seems to be misconstrued. It represents an ad that has actually cut through i.e. is salient. If there is an emotional response then someone has consumed your advert. An emotion doesn't have to be tears pouring down your face!!
