Let me take you behind the scenes of Sonic Expo - from its beginnings to where we are today. A story of community, connection, and creating something bigger than ourselves. Sonic Expo started with a simple idea: bringing friends together. We were just Sonic fans in Texas wanting to meet other people who drew Sonic art. That vision quickly expanded to include all forms of Sonic content creation - art, music, voice acting, and beyond. When the opportunity first came, it wasn't about just "meeting Sonic fans" for me. I'd already been deeply involved in music and gaming communities, running businesses and groups. The initial meetup? Just 30 people in a hotel room, known as "Sonic artist meetup." We rebranded as Chaos Creators, and when the world changed, we adapted with online events. That's when we discovered something crucial: we weren't just creating a space for people to meet - we were cultivating genuine connections. Anyone can say "hi" and introduce themselves. But cultivating authentic connections? That was our boss battle. We wanted to create an environment where beautiful, lasting relationships could flourish naturally. Having run convention events for over half a decade, I knew this was different. Sonic Arts Festival followed, and through it, we didn't just meet people - we forged bonds that will last a lifetime. These weren't networking connections - they were real friendships. People often ask how we compete with other conventions. Here's the truth: we don't. We're not trying to be "Convention A" or "Convention B." Our vision is different. We don't compare ourselves to conventions - we compare ourselves to Disney World and Universal Studios. We're trying to capture that same magic, that same sense of wonder, but for Sonic fans. And we're still incredibly far from achieving that goal. When people ask "what's next?" after seeing our game room, concerts, and maid cafe with full dining experience, I say: "Anything." We could have master chefs creating community-inspired dishes. More musical events beyond our concert. The possibilities are endless - there's so much more musical passion in this community waiting to be showcased. One of our original dreams? Being like The Game Awards, but for Sonic content - premiering fan games, mods, and independent projects born from the same passion we all share. That first Sonic Expo was like moving a mountain with our bare hands. Just a skeleton crew facing what seemed impossible. But that was part of the magic - watching a community come together to create something extraordinary. Now, as Sonic Expo 2024 approaches, that story has evolved. Our management team has grown beyond what we could've imagined. Our attendance numbers have shattered our original expectations. The mountain hasn't gotten smaller, but our team has grown stronger. It's not just me and Jovi anymore. It's our entire management team. It's our passionate art staff and tireless production crew. It's every volunteer who steps up to make this event special. It's the content creators and industry guests who believed in our vision from day one. And now? It's you too. That mountain that once seemed insurmountable? Now it feels like just another rock we can kick together. We're not just an event. We're a dream factory for Sonic fans, working to create experiences that let people enjoy Sonic in ways they never could before. And we're just getting started. 💫
