What an incredible start to #FintechFridaysUganda Edition 2026!
The inaugural edition brought together over 100 fintech innovators, regulators, financial institutions, investors, development partners, academia, and ecosystem enablers for meaningful conversations on the future of digital finance in Uganda.
Through insightful discussions on capital, compliance, digital trust, digital payments, interoperability, and financial inclusion, the event underscored the importance of collaboration in driving innovation and building a resilient, inclusive fintech ecosystem.

In his closing remarks at the #FintechFridaysUganda 2026 Edition, @BJnrGilbert, Programs Lead at @miic_ug highlighted that this inaugural edition marks the beginning of a series of engagements aimed at strengthening Uganda’s fintech ecosystem.
He thanked the keynote speakers, panelists, partners, startups, and all participants for their valuable contributions and commitment towards making the inaugural edition a success.

Speaking on Capital, Compliance and Digital Trust at the #FintechFridaysUganda 2026 Edition, Joseph Emiku, Senior Microfinance Officer in the Microfinance Regulatory Department @mofpedU, highlighted the importance of compliance and regulatory alignment in building a trusted fintech ecosystem.
He noted that Government has established standards and minimum requirements to ensure that fintech companies operate within the existing legal and regulatory frameworks, including the Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act, National Payment Systems Act, Digital Lending Guidelines, and Mobile Money regulations.
Emiku encouraged fintech innovators to formalize their businesses by obtaining certificates of incorporation from the Uganda @URSBHQ, securing the necessary company documentation such as Forms 18 and 20, developing clear loan agreements, and seeking required approvals, including guidance and clearance from @NITAUganda1.
He emphasized that compliance, transparency, and digital trust are essential foundations for sustainable fintech growth in Uganda.

In her opening remarks at the #FintechFridaysUganda 2026 Edition, Dianah Nannono, Head of the Private Sector Development Unit @mofpedU, emphasized that the day's discussions align closely with Government priorities.
"The conversations today on interoperability and inclusion, and on capital, compliance and digital trust, speak directly to the Government's own priorities: building an inclusive financial system that reaches rural communities, women, youth and MSMEs."
She further noted that the tenfold growth ambition behind this year's theme is bold but achievable, provided regulators, banks, telecoms, investors and innovators continue coming together to forge meaningful partnerships and leave with concrete commitments rather than good intentions.

In her keynote address at the #FintechFridaysUganda 2026 Edition, @MpooraBrenda, Head of Fintech Business at @Pearlbankug, underscored the critical role of fintech in transforming Uganda's agricultural sector, noting that it is the backbone of the country's economy.
She urged fintech innovators to develop solutions that strengthen farmers' financial resilience by expanding access to affordable financial services, offering competitive financing, connecting them to digital markets, and enabling seamless digital payments.
Brenda also called on the Government to continue fostering an enabling environment for innovation while encouraging banks, telecommunications companies, investors, and other ecosystem players to work together in advancing Uganda's #TenfoldGrowthStrategy through inclusive financial innovation.
