This map overturned something I thought I understood about the fur trade. Look at the routes. They don’t radiate outward from Montreal like Europeans were exploring an empty continent. They connect Indigenous villages. By the early 1700s, French traders weren’t inventing a transportation network across the Great Lakes. They were learning one. Every major route depended on Native pilots, Native diplomacy, Native portages, and communities that had been moving people and goods through this landscape long before the first trading post appeared. Even the forts make more sense when you notice where they’re built. Mackinac. Detroit. Niagara. Vincennes. They sit at bottlenecks. The fur trade wasn’t controlled by whoever trapped the most beavers. It was controlled by whoever controlled movement. That’s a very different story than “Europe opened the frontier.”

Cipotle $CMG just said that its first Chipotle restaurant in Mexico 🇲🇽 will open on Thursday in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León

Awesome: "Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is heading south to plant its next flag, betting that an American brand can sell Mexican-inspired food to Mexicans." bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
