Just about every single line is wrong Clean energy doesn't save money. Wind and solar are MORE EXPENSIVE than every other form of generation. It's why bills keep going up More drilling for gas WOULD reduce bills because we would displace LNG imports. In the UK we could remove the need for LNG altogether It wouldn't be a huge direct reduction but it would definitely bring bills down It would also mean the N Sea continued to provide jobs, investment and £billions in tax revenues I've offered ever MP and Peer a free hour of energy training on the basics of oil, gas and electricity... "Drill and bills come down." It's the most repeated idea in energy politics. It's also wrong. A clean energy saves us money. Increasing drilling makes no impact on your bills. The numbers have been clear for year. It's time the politics caught up.

This pushes back readiness in the north sea by months. The idea that any company is ready to drill from the moment they get consent is nonsense. The only low-risk solution to our energy crisis is to focus on clean energy, particularly in the north sea. theguardian.com/business/2026/…

@mike_reader Especially as they were no used for the majority of the time. We had 2 in our area and they were NEVER used.

We build the Nightingale Hospital in 10 days. Anything is possible in an incredibly short amount of time with the right team, focus, decision making and budget.

Listening to @NickFerrariLBC this AM. Have just been through the social care system with a family member. The stories he is hearing don't touch the sides... the system is so expensive, and so incredibly complex, anything @andyburnham can do will make things better.

@mike_reader Across England, the seven temporary NHS Nightingale hospitals treated only a few hundred patients in total, with estimates ranging from 270 to around 380 between 2020 and 2021. Many of the facilities admitted zero or very few “Covid-19”patients,existing hospitals largely managed.

Incredibly incredibly challenging to achieve. The Tories missed the opportunity to bake this in via the Procurement Act. And what does "British" mean? The raw materials, the manufacturing, the business selling the product?

@watt_direction @here_there The scale of accessible gas, which OE:UK had been clear can only only viably be drilled with a lower taxation regime, doesn't touch the side. The numbers in the table are massive. Available supply, not so much.

Do you really believe that? Natural gas data from DESNZ DUKES table 4.1 below Domestic production in green, net imports in blue and demand in orange. Assuming domestic production has no meaningful price impact (thus keeping demand constant) higher domestic production means less reliance on net imports...

@andymhamilton So wrong. Price is set by the global market. Price is controlled by the petrol states! We're a price taker, no matter how much we drill.

@mike_reader @here_there Sure, but more domestic drilling would mean lower hydrocarbon imports. You can attack the hydrocarbon import reliance from two directions at once: 1. More North Sea drilling 2. Faster electrification The two activities aren't mutually exclusive...

@here_there No amount of drilling stops us importing gas and oil. We are tied into importing gas and oil from the middle east and America until we are free from the hydrocarbon roller coaster.

In what way have renewables lowered bills? Please explain Having a coherent measured net zero policy would lower the cost of borrowing - importing dirtier hydrocarbons from abroad as the UK puts the carbon on the likelier not the consumer is the politics of the playground as well as being hypocritical
