Our second #aelpNC24 plenary included a really interesting update from @mikecrowhurst of Public First on education and public opinion. We also heard from @Stephen_EvansUK @LearnWorkUK and hosted an important panel discussion setting out the challenges around devolution.

With pensions already a live issue in the election, we've published new polling for @PhoenixGroupUK on auto-enrolment. Clear public appetite to increase contributions if this is part of a long-term plan to ensure pensions give people an adequate income for retirement.
Tim Fassam@FassamTim

The vast majority of UK voters expect the Government to ensure the pensions system is delivering the right outcomes - and if it isn’t expect it to set out a plan to rectify the situation. @PhoenixGroupUK @mikecrowhurst #publicfirst thephoenixgroup.com/news-views/7-i…

@mikecrowhurst Hello Mike. I hope you can help me. I am writing a journalistic piece about these findings. I have drawn some stats from the press release shared in the tweet below, but I need to provide a weblink to it and I can't find the press release anywhere. x.com/jjohnstonmezzo…

3/ What drives this? People value the sound and the way opera combines drama, music and visual art. Far from being a turn off, opera's tradition and history positively influence people's feelings towards it, with traditional performances more popular than modern ones.

6/ But the more people see opera the more they like it. After watching clips from a range of operas, from Nessun Dorma to The Nose, people were 3x as likely to say they felt more positively about opera as negatively. So the challenge is to reach a wider audience.

1/ Opera's cut through is low currently but there is latent interest. 71% of people think opera is unique. Even amongst those who have never met an opera fan, 41% would like to go to the opera once in their lives and 40% would pay >£10 for a ticket.

We've published interim findings from a big new research project with Laidlaw Opera Trust looking at how the public see opera. Beyond the headline in today's Times, its insights should challenge but also encourage the sector: thetimes.co.uk/article/half-o…

9/ Expand and reform training routes into relevant industries. Young people need to have a direct line of sight to a job and more interaction with employers to consider training for a green job. Skills boot camps can offer this but are too inflexible for some.

As COP28 approaches, we've published a new report for @PrincesTrust which suggests young people’s lack of interest in green jobs could be a serious risk to the UK meeting its Net Zero targets. publicfirst.co.uk/generation-gre… A few highlights from our poll:
