LA Metro will do more studies for K Line Northern Extension project, exploring alignment changes to minimize tunneling under residential neighborhoods to address community concerns. Looks like alignment selection and Draft EIR certification are delayed. metro.legistar.com/LegislationDet…

@NickAndert It always saddens me that the Expo stop on Westwood/Rancho Park (aka the most direct rail stop to UCLA until the D line opens) is a sea of single family homes. I guess that’s better than an empty lot though.

@numble I’m surprised Option 1 is still on the table given how poor ridership projections from metro are. I fuss if both 1 & 2 were gone at the same time SOHA would have flipped.

July 2024 LA Metro update on Sepulveda transit line. Metro has formally eliminated Alternative 2 (monorail+people mover). Metro had community meetings because Sherman Oaks HOA preferred Alternative 2. SOHA told Metro they do not oppose eliminating it. boardarchives.metro.net/BoardBox/2024/…

March 2024 LA Metro Sepulveda update. Draft EIR in 2025. At Fall 2023 meetings, 89% supported heavy rail. Monorail contractor asks to remove Alternative 2 (monorail+people mover) from study. Sherman Oaks HOA supports Alt 2, so there will be more meetings. dropbox.com/scl/fi/j87inns…

@PurviRajani @AlecStapp At the start of their careers, physicians undergo 3-7 years of reisdency/fellowship training where they are typically making 50-100K/year (the left bell curve). The moment residency is finished their pay increases by 4-7x.

@MattMasonCA @numble I wonder if there’s a typo in the report, the previous report also lists 71.1% completion but the station percentage increased.

@numble 61% completion for the airport station. Seems highly unlikely that this can be completed later this year.

@JakeAnbinder The baseball stadium in San Diego is surrounded on two to three sides by new towers going up. That figure is going to be wildly different in less than 10 years... One of the few places in America that residential towers can be built by right.

@JakeAnbinder To be fair, half of the 3 km radial catch of Oracle Park in SF is water. The other half includes high density residential buildings with local and regional rail connections.

@numble Really sad to see here play both sides this way. Was hoping for someone a bit more pro-heavy rail, but I suppose she’s still more supportive than Hertzberg was going to be.

2/15/23 comments from LA Metro director Lindsey Horvath at Sherman Oaks HOA meeting. She does not have an opinion on monorail versus subway. She is concerned Metro does not consider affordability in project selections. She wants to increase transparency at Metro.

Lindsey Horvath, new LA Metro board director’s comments on Sepulveda project from @streetsforall. She does not think any options should be taken off table, wants to get more agreement for alignment, and says there are creative solutions proposed that meet a lot more needs.

So the big NYT article about California high speed rail is not actually saying anything new. It's the latest from a former LA Times reporter who spent the last 12 years writing based hit pieces about the project. I shut my blog down years ago. But it's time to debunk him again.
