SENIOR CITIZEN NABBED, AS DETECTIVES SEIZE CANNABIS IN ATHI RIVER
68-year-old Teresia Mwikali Amukoa has found herself facing the long arm of the law, thanks to detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), her role in the shadowy world of narcotics trafficking has finally come to light.
Acting on a tip-off, the team laid an ambush at the main entrance of Mutete Flats in Athi River, where the suspect was intercepted while riding pillion on a motorcycle; an unassuming passenger who looked more like a person heading to the market than a distributor of narcotics.
A swift search of the suspect revealed three handbags: not filled with groceries, but packed to the brim with packages of Cannabis Sativa.
Detectives extended the dragnet to her residence, where a further search uncovered a basket and a clear polythene bag, both loaded with more packages of the prohibited weed.
Mwikali’s "get-rich-quick" scheme has gone up in smoke. She was whisked away to Muthaiga Police Station, where she is currently cooling her heels, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has increasingly become a political punching bag whenever the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement face political challenges.

@OCTOPIZZO The problem with the Matatu industry is not Graffiti, the real issue should be discipline , just following traffic rules and how they handle themselves.
English

This ruling reflects a broader misunderstanding of art, youth culture, and the creative economy.
Criminalizing graffiti on matatus risks dismissing an entire artistic ecosystem that has become a powerful expression of Kenyan urban culture and a source of employment for many young creatives. From graphic designers and painters to fabricators, installers, and branding teams, this industry supports livelihoods and has helped shape the globally recognized identity of matatu culture.
The conversation should be about regulation, safety, and compliance, particularly where visibility and road safety are concerned not the blanket criminalization of artistic expression.
This is exactly why every institution, including the courts, must develop a deeper understanding of the creative industry and its economic impact before making decisions that could unintentionally undermine youth employment and cultural innovation.
