@mikeyd003 @Daniel_Is_Him_ A couple of things: Butcher isn’t dying of cancer after accepting his power. He isn’t weaker here. His tentacles are strong enough to rip Neuman, who no-diffed Homelanders lasers, in half easily. And Ryan was in a 1v1 before. With Butcher he has a better chance as we see.

Reason I’m not satisfied with The Boys ending: Homelander received such an easy death. The Deep died like that? Annie should have delivered the final blow. Sister Sage walked off unscathed. No plot armor saved butcher & Frenchie somehow. (2/10)

@mikeyd003 @ifOnlyKantala Again with the categorical error. Denmark falls because Hamlet compromises and btw the fall of Denmark is completely useless and non contingent on Hamlet dying with Claudius and completely unnecessary. Hamlet kills his uncle just on his own without Fortinbras' help. 1/2

People wanted Homelander to scorch the Earth, Don't want to die, and Win in the end That’s exactly what’s wrong with people as a society, Makers don't want to leave that image, don't want bad people to win Homelander did horrible things. He ruined lives, killed innocent people, and treated himself like a god. A character like that doesn’t deserve a glorious ending. And that’s why his death worked. He didn’t die with aura or pride. He died like a human being scared, desperate, begging for survival in front of Butcher and live television. The man who saw himself as a god was reduced to fear and helplessness. That’s the most satisfying ending a villain like Homelander could get. Evil shouldn’t be rewarded just because it looks cool.

@mikeyd003 @ifOnlyKantala You're making a categorical error. Hitler died cause of a world war because he initiated a world war. Camps closing didn't require a world war...it just required Hitler dead. Homelander opened camps but never incited a World War. Hence the camps went with him.

@mikeyd003 @ifOnlyKantala Harsh disagreement there. The story, from season 1 dressed and served nothing but characters. Homelander behaving that was perfectly in character for who he actually is, As stan edgar, Maeve, and A train have been clocking since day one- he's nothing without his powers.

That’s the template. Butcher and Frenchie dying doesn’t deny Marvel structure. It IS the Marvel structure.

@ShivamP45034621 @ifOnlyKantala Badass vs begging is AESTHETIC. Plus none of those deaths were “badass.” The point is the Disney recipe: villain levels up. Hero gets plot armor. Random last minute plot device saves the day. The begging dresses the formula, doesn’t subvert it.

@mikeyd003 @ifOnlyKantala It mocked comic book movie tropes yes. But it's EXACTLY in a comic book movie where a godlike villain dies in somewhat of a badass way. Thanos, Zod, Bane...there are MULTIPLE examples. Boys avoids it. Very rarely do we see a raping fascist get the treatment they deserve.

usually when people say “I don’t think you guys understand the point of your show” most of the time., it’s definitely a cop out, but based on the reactions that I’ve seen for the finale (and this entire season) “The Boys” fans do not understand their own show

@ifOnlyKantala You’re conflating two things. Nobody wanted Homelander to win. The critique is the show promised to MOCK this exact cathartic-villain-dies-everyone-fine ending. Then delivered it. Many Homelander deaths would’ve honored the show’s thesis. This wasn’t one.
