@SiskJerry Yeah, the significance of the signing can’t be overstated given where the club was at the time, and everything that was achieved in the following seasons.
English

@milesstarforth Arguably of all time, up there just after Keegan for what he helped achieve.
English

Kieran Trippier was the first genuinely world-class player to sign for Newcastle United in a long time.
What’s more, he took a pay cut, and joined in a relegation battle.
He believed, others followed.
Arguably one of the club’s most consequential signings of the PL era.

Thank you, Tripps 🖤🤍 After four and a half years of incredible service to Newcastle United, we can confirm that Kieran Trippier will leave the club this summer when his contract expires. Kieran arrived in January 2022 with the club in the relegation zone and played a crucial role as he went on to lift the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.
English

God that was some trip. Also confirmation I am very old.

Dug out these photos from Newcastle United's last visit to Barcelona in 2002, remembered for a 24-hour postponement and a Shola Ameobi goal. By the time I returned three years ago, the Nou Camp’s upper tier, where the away fans had been sat, was mostly gone. Who was there? #NUFC
English

@Toonbazza Yes, remember heading for an internet cafe myself to book another flight. Felt for those who were herded on to buses after postponement.
English

@milesstarforth Remember it well, the Internet cafes packed out as people scrambled to rearrange flights, hotels etc, only a fraction made it to the game the next day. I'll always remember Shola scoring at the Camp Nou!

@Steph_Herdman32 Was still in town when it was postponed, you must’ve got to ground early!
English

@chrisbrady1979 Nightmare. And yeah, the rain was relentless.
English

@milesstarforth I went and came back without going. It hoyed it down all day and sheltered in an Irish bar. Watched it in Luckies in the town
English

@Steph_Herdman32 @milesstarforth I don’t remember much other that we were on the day trip organised by the club, early start, plenty of drink in the sun, then the rain came and also fell asleep in the airport and nearly missed the flight back too!
English

@FI_bindex Wow, that’s random! Ended up booking another flight and filing my story in an internet cafe.
English

@milesstarforth I was there. If I remember rightly we didn’t know for sure the game would be played the next night, but we took a chance and stayed the extra 24 hours. Randomly met Alice Cooper in a tapas bar, as you do
English

@Steph_Herdman32 Nightmare! Was doing a colour piece from away end, and reported on what happened with people being bussed to airport from postponed game. It was a big story!
English

@milesstarforth Yeah. Our return flight was straight after the game. Got all the way up to our seats and then they announced it was off. Never been so gutted in my life!
English

@Steph_Herdman32 Did you have to go home after postponement?
English

@milesstarforth Me! And never got to see a ball kicked 🙈
English

Seen and reported on some big Newcastle United wins against Man Utd over the years at SJP.
That’s up there with the best of them.
Extraordinary performance capped with an extraordinary goal.

Burn glances home Tonali's free-kick - but he's just strayed beyond the last defender and VAR upholds the on-field decision of offside. #NUFC 2-1
English

@milesstarforth Genuinely unbelievable. Between both officials, apparently in the elite group, how can they get it so wrong
