Given that the colloidal process wasn't invented until the latter 1850s, and that Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype in 1839, I assume this is a daguerreotype.
Given the subject of the photograph, I wonder if this wasn't taken by Daguerre himself.

When my daughters were little, they each got a set of 30 stick-on earrings. One daughter saved hers for special occasions and ended up not even using them all before she outgrew them.
