I went out with a guy from accounting for coffee. It was a casual first date. I ordered a standard latte, and he got a drip coffee. He insisted on paying, saying, "I got this, don't worry about it." It was $4.50 total. The next morning, I woke up to an email notification. He had sent me an Excel spreadsheet titled Date_Expenses_Itemized.xlsx. He had broken down the cost of my latte, added a 15% tip calculation, and factored in a prorated amount for the wear and tear on his vehicle for the 1.2 miles he drove to meet me. The grand total he requested via Venmo was $3.82. The Exit: I didn't reply to the email. I Venmoed him exactly $5.00 with the caption: "Keep the change, invest it in a therapist." Then I blocked him on everything.
