Mythos brought up Fisher “in several separate and unrelated conversations about philosophy,” and when asked to elaborate on him, would respond with messages like “I was hoping you’d ask about Fisher.”

@BarneyFlames Except Vanderbilt is not more selective than Yale, not for the class of 2030. Yale has a much larger international population, narrowing any white/Asian gaps. Vanderbilt’s SAT scores are boosted by test-optional reporting and ~300 merit scholarships. Yale offers none.

> significantly more white AND more Asian > 25th percentile SAT score is same as Harvard > 75rh percentile SAT is actually higher Okay so their big secret is that their admission criteria is mostly test score based.

vanderbilt is now more selective than yale my theory of the increasing popularity of this institution is that it combines elements of ivy plus prestige with the increasing trend toward students opting for southern football schools. also a lot of people love nashville these days

@cszabla Not quite. “The News calculated that the regular decision acceptance rate, when accounting for deferred students in the pool, was about 2.9 percent — a decrease from last year’s regular decision acceptance rate of 3.65 percent.” yaledailynews.com/articles/regul…

Vanderbilt University accepted 2.9% of regular-decision applicants looking to enroll in the freshman class next fall, signaling that one of the most selective colleges in the US has become even more competitive bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I just turned down an invitation to interview with a company and it hurts more than I thought it would because I want to work there and I need the money. I know I’ll never feel ready for an interview ever, but it was just not the right time. “Now sync your breathing.”

@Empty_America What’s more likely? The ability to clearly see and decide what in life is worthwhile. You just don’t see it that way.

I love Linux. I love everything about Linux. I love pretending to know anything about Linux. I used to use Debian-Linux with xfce on my Motorola Atrix 4G with Lapdock back in 2011.

@fredsoda From what I remember, Yale admissions officers say they could fill their class several times over with rejected applicants without lowering the quality of the incoming class. I agree with your general point, but it’s usually framed more as a hypothetical.

Somehow I got placed into the DMT/Atlanta/psychedelics/minimal context/conspiracy/academia algorithm on here. It’s a nice break from news and politics.

@Empty_America Yes, some people assume I’m dumb because I went to Yale for college, and it never occurs to them that the opposite might be true.

Yeah many people don't grasp that the median SAT of Harvard students is 1550 and this INCLUDES all DEI admits, legacy, athletes. The great majority of kids walking around that campus scored 1500+, even if they had some type of preference.
Master Ridley@mstr_ridley

It's a good question. My guess is the composition of students would not actually change that much. Only about 500 kids get a perfect score each year. Harvard has 2000 slots to fill. The median score of admits _currently_ is like a 1550. And that includes all the athletes, legacy kids and underprivileged minorities. Everyone forgets how smart Ivy League kids actually are!

@Empty_America They should give a harder test then. Indian manages to do this for their institutions and I believe china does too. That's one reason many well-off chinese students come to schools one stop below the top tier. They couldnt get into the top chinese ones.

Pearl turned five on 3/16/26. Watch her ski. I forgot her birthday. I also didn’t think about what happened to me that day. And this is progress. How many years does it take to stop thinking about a day that changed your life? Five years.
