@united Henry says taxis are only accepting cash and refusing to go downtown because traffic is so bad. ATMs have queues of people waiting for them to turn back on. Major exhibits like museums have been closed off. He's heading out shortly to report more. #apagon

UPDATE: Spain / Portugal blackout. It's ~5 hours since the blackout started. Load has risen a tiny bit to ~12 GW in Spain (a recovery of ~1.5 GW since 12.35pm local time when it started). The grid operator still has another >10 GW to recover. Sunset in Madrid is in ~3 hours.

After power returned, everything seemed to carry on as normal. It wasn’t until about 30 min later, when people started getting news alerts, that anyone realized the full extent of the outage. Not sure if power was restored at the airport or if they’re running on generators.
