That said, this availability comes at a huge environmental cost. In the absence of adequate waste management, the sachets are often discarded in the street, where they can be washed into water systems, contributing to the already excessive plastic pollution in the region.

Market response to the scarcity of drinking water? Water sachets. In West Africa, in the context of limited water infrastructure and low incomes, drinking water is widely sourced from sealed plastic pouches.🧵
