When Israel defends itself against Hamas in a battlefield Hamas carefully constructed to maximize civilian casualties, Israel is falsely accused of “indiscriminate bombing.” When Israel surgically removes the leadership of Hamas, without killing a single Palestinian civilian, Israel is falsely accused of “escalation.” Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If you deny a nation every means of self-defense, then you are essentially denying it the right of self-defense.
