@apreshill This is great! I love the wee dude so much that I have a keyboard shortcut set up. Sadly, in apps that support basic markdown (inc. Slack), the _'s get interpreted as italics... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@sTeamTraen Ah well, in that case my benefit of the doubt is likely not warranted. I just remembered crazy things that sometimes ended up happening when I've been forced to work with excel (:

@mivalek It's not clear to me how you would get to be entering a formula and then editing it without a great deal of very (un)lucky clicking. (Also, there are a few other formulas in the column, and the paper is clearly dodgy in many other ways.)

Displaying formulas in a dataset in Excel can sometimes be like turning on the light in a room full of cockroaches. #SmokingGun

In the wake of yesterday's assassination attempt, president Biden has condemned, in the strongest terms, all forms of political violence and wished former president Lincoln a speedy recovery

As Jews we are told from a young age that our identities are intrinsically tied to the modern State of Israel. It is taught to us in Hebrew School, in services, and is a deeply held belief by many of our parents, grandparents and family members.

#Stats #rstats #DataScience how would you model a questionnaire item with options: - every day - several times a week - once a week - several times a month - once a month Would you fit an ordinal model convert to times per month and fit a Poisson model or something else?

@Neuro_Skeptic Reminds me of my entry for the 2015 hallowe'en bake sale at royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh. As an exhibit, it was quite a draw; as a dessert, not so much... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@mivalek 😊 I nearly tagged you, knowing you'd know how to do that extra bit. Good to see your regex-fu is still going strong!

The joy of getting #rstats regex right without resorting to help! Only keep the text within the parentheses at the end of the string: gsub("(.*)(\\(.*)", "\\2", "some text (ooh)") 🥳

@alexandrosM @lakens @Johnny12345 I think it's good that you are open about your assumptions. Would you also say how you checked them? Do you think your argument holds if the assumption doesn't? If what @lakens says it's true (the ad hominem though!!!), isn't it interesting to you and important for the argument?

I expect the argument made in a letter to the journal to be the actual argument that convinced Harvard. If you believe Harvard withheld key information from the journal that's for you to handle. I am operating under the assumption that Harvard provided the journal with their honestly held strongest case for amending the retraction.

I've been doing a bunch of digging on the Francesca Gino vs. DataColada case. This is probably a good interim point to share my findings so far. Even though I don't know what it all means quite yet, it's pretty clear that the story we have been presented has serious flaws.

If two vectors represent an equal number of observations of two random variables, and each vector is shifted to have zero mean, then the cosine of the angle between the vectors is their correlation. (3/3)

The dot product of two vectors equals the product of the lengths of the two vectors and the cosine of the angle between them. This is a theorem in 2D, and the definition of θ in higher dimensions. 🧵 (1/3)

SO MAD about this. Professor gives talk about naloxone to 1st yr med students, is critical of Texas policies. Politically motivated student snitches to Lt Gov Dan Patrick, who contacts TAMU Chancellor John Sharp, who puts her on administrative leave, promises to fire her.
