@mjm2255

Neither woke nor anti-woke but definitely anti-crank, from both left and right.

@mjm2255 @nayburz @realHunterEstes @DouglasCarswell You may not personally, but im 100% sure you've heard your fellow compatriots throughout your life doing it. Otherwise there wouldn't be such animosity twords us. We've heard it plenty.

British people today are shocked to find out that their nation is poorer than Mississippi as they call us “swamp dwelling hillbillies.” Maybe the UK should spend less time sneering at Mississippi and more time trying to follow our lead!

@StevenEdginton This shows how little the British understand what has happened in America over the last decade. Trump isn't an aberration, he's reflecting a broad desire in the US for a different approach to the world. That Britain thought Mandelson was the answer shows how clueless they are.

The NYT reports British officials were "left stunned" by the State Dept when they raised concerns about free-speech and migrant crime. British diplomats' "jaws dropped" when confronted on these issues.

What am I denying and where have I denied it? I am not denying the outcome of the study. I am questioning the need for a bizarre American online obsession with my country when it is not replicated for those in a similar position. New Zealand, Japan, France and Germany don’t get the same treatment. You make up this image of the average British person that mocks the South every day. We don’t. It’s all on your head.

I think it was probably “neutral” until the aftermath of the civil war. Noting that British passive support for the Confederacy was probably a mixture economic (cotton) and sour grapes (kick the Union government in the teeth when they’re down). Ascendant Liberal governments afterwards though would never have continued that though.

@mjm2255 Imperial Germany & co, Nazi Germany & co, Soviet Union & co etc all a direct threat to those interests hence Anglo-American cooperation.

@HoyasFan07 I presume after the Napoleonic Wars there was a detente reached, rudely interrupted no doubt by the civil war?

also WWI wasn't even the start of Anglo-American strategic cooperation... That started quite a bit earlier. It's actually remarkable how quickly the US and the British Empire became strategic partners after the conflicts of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Inherited from what specific date? How long have we been able to maintain these magical statistics whilst making no money whatsoever? The logic doesn’t work. You mistake my original point which merely points out that anomalies exist. Google median income between the US and the UK if you don’t believe. But after your other insulting post, you’re now muted. Tw*t.

@mjm2255 @realHunterEstes @DouglasCarswell A lot of the statistics are inherited when you were a rich country and don't cost anything. An entire country ranked lower than America's poorest state should be a huge wake up call on where you guys are headed.

@mjm2255 @realHunterEstes @DouglasCarswell The study everyone is talking about was also about perception. UK thought they were rank 7th in income when they were in fact ranked dead last. The gap between perception and reality is the real problem. That's why we are trolling the UK and not Japan.

Oh no you didn’t see the GDP per capita table did you? Whatever you do don’t respond. You’ll be cleaning your mentions of Mississippians fake mockeries for about three weeks. I mean f*ck my life as if we’re not expected to notice the anomalies. Washington DC is $260k per capita apparently! Are the streets paved with real gold?

When an American spends half an hour telling Europeans on X how poor they are, but then they have to do the school run….

In fairness American X is quite happy to offer their two cents on everything UK related at the moment. The hate is genuinely disproportional. And every time I point this out I’m told it’s justified because of “special” relationship that you Yanks always mock when our backs are turned. So the one time we start acting in accordance with the actual reality we get thrown layers and layers of shade. Excuse us if it gets a bit tiresome and we start paying attention to your own little domesticities.

@TheAngry53586 @whyologist @PeteHegseth Try to wind back the boring name calling. Nobody is saying he didn’t do something wrong by mistake. The point some of us are articulating is the sledgehammer reply by the CO. Also enough of the US gun culture nonsense, it’s nothing to do with the UK. Again it’s boring

@fharris2011 Indeed. It’s entirely legitimate to want to distance from the US after this debacle. But it requires putting money where mouths are. And quite frankly telling the Treasury, Health and Work & Pensions to go swivel. For the time being at least.

@AngryJingoist @ClarkeMicah Actually the reason you need permission is because it is enshrined within the NATO Status of Forces Agreement, 1951. This is the template which governs US forces use of all overseas bases in the European theatre.

@ClarkeMicah I couldn't possibly care less about an empty crown flying over here for a photo op and a few meals. "Ally and trading partner" A facade of a navy, a country poorer than Louisiana, and a gov't so scared of internal Muslim violence we have to ask permission to use airfields.

If you don't invest in defence the UK will continue to be blown around by world events, which are likely to become more not less threatening to the UK and our economy. Investment in defence is investment in the peace and stability needed for growth.
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

These growth figures show the Government has the right plan to build a stronger more resilient economy. But the war in Iran will come at a cost. That is why we are taking the right, fair and necessary action to protect families and businesses.

@afneil Rubbish. The Ukraine SMO was a response to (1) ongoing murder of ethnic Russians, making it 14,000 to the time of the SMO in Feb 2022, and (2) the threat of NATO missile bases setting up in Ukraine, ready to attack Russia for western elites to steal Russia's resources.
