Most people don’t have a busy life. They have a busy mind. For 10 minutes, I sit in front of a candle and let my attention rest on the flame. Every time my mind wanders, I gently bring it back. Theo loves it too. That’s the practice. Not perfection. Just returning. Over time, I’ve noticed more calm, more clarity, and better sleep. This simple practice became one of the foundations that eventually led me to discover Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) the practice that helped my body reorganize, regulate, and heal on a much deeper level. If you’re ready to experience that next step, drop a “ZHANG” and I’ll send you my guided Standing Meditation practice. #meditation #mindfulmovemend
Jules Horn@juleshorn01

Every day the last 90 days, and I don’t plan on ever stopping The practice is also called Zhan Zhuang and various other names. Doesn’t necessarily matter what you call it, most important is that you do it. It the pinnacle of my daily ritual and I look forward to it each day. The body knows how to heal when we give it the right environment. The first 5 minutes in the beginning were not easy, the mind starts going crazy, I got bored and I wanted to move so bad. I stuck with it and it became easier and easier My legs got stronger, aches and pains I had went away and my overall mood is just much better too. It’s part of my ritual, I love it, I do 20-30min daily, sometimes even twice. Grateful. Shows once again : Less is more #standing #meditation

I'm going to say something that will befuddle some Europeans, anger others, and maybe inspire a few. Today I experienced one of the starkest differences between Dutch and American culture. And though it's Dutch, I think it's broadly European. Let me explain. I had an important conference call and took it while biking to a local package pickup point. You walk in, show your code and ID, they hand you your package. Basic. Not a big deal. I wasn't being loud or obnoxious… but yes, I was on the phone. As I was leaving with my package in hand, the other clerk… not the one helping me, the one across the room who wasn't serving anyone… chimed in loudly.. “Next time, finish your call before you come in here to get your package." As an American, I was stunned. As someone who thrives on verbal confrontation, I had all sorts of comebacks flowing through my head. But I was on a call, so I just gave a “WTF?” look and kept walking. Some of you will have no reaction to this. Some will think… sure, you were being rude, and that person had every right to say something. And yes… they do have that right. But… If that happened in the US, the likelihood of that employee being fired on the spot… depending on how the customer reacted or complained… is several orders of magnitude higher than here. In this country, it is nearly impossible to fire an employee. The protections are so vast and far-reaching that workers have no fear, and no reason to check their behavior toward customers. At no point did it even occur to this person that there could be a consequence to speaking to me in that manner… "The customer is always right" does not exist in these parts. It's partly why European waiters carry the stereotype of not really caring about you. They're not working for tips, it's just a job, and firing them is nearly impossible… so where's the incentive to be nice? Funny enough, many Europeans view American retail workers as friendly to an almost weird degree. Understand the incentives and it all makes sense. Net-net, being a customer in the US is a far better experience. But there’s an even deeper issue… America celebrates the individual, and that culture trickles all the way down through business into something like at-will employment. The individual has the right to get up and leave… the owner has the right to fire on the spot. The individual is put on a pedestal. It is our nature. It is our origin story, for better or worse. The Old World is about what I call deference to the institution. The institution above the individual. It's been this way forever, and in my opinion it will never change… for reasons very similar to Zelinsky's Doctrine of First Effective Settlement. Absent a clean slate, cultures don't change even across centuries. You might say…. but Europe empowered the individual in this very story… the clerk got to speak his mind to a customer. Not true. Employees of a company or institution are agents of that institution. So what EU employment protections actually do is not strengthen the individual. They empower the agents of institutions… giving them even more leverage over the actual individual… the customer. The person walking into an establishment acting on their own agency to receive a service. They don't want a lecture from the institution. Europeans should appreciate what they have here. It's easy to complain about low wages, but it's a real trade-off… you get to talk shit to a customer, and another Dutch customer might even nod along… we're a pragmatic society, we speak our minds, we're honest with each other. Who knows which path is the correct one. From a realpolitik, hard power, and innovation perspective… and social mobility… American culture wins every time. And there is a perspective that, regardless of your feelings, your ancient cultural dispositions, or your tolerances… hard power is all that matters in the modern world. Maybe from other perspectives, the EU way wins. I don't know.

What Interscope did with these three albums was truly awful. Instead of giving Madonna the creative freedom she thrives on, they locked her in rooms full of songwriters and turned the process into a committee driven class project. Rather than letting her work closely with a select group of producers per album, they made songwriting a collaborative free-for-all. It’s completely understandable why so many people are skeptical of these records. When fans call them some of her weakest work, it often makes sense, because Madonna herself wasn’t fully in control. The label’s heavy-handed approach held her back.

⚡️This is a man experiencing his life as non-participation. The pasta is just the object the despair attached to. The actual pain is that every domain that is supposed to make adulthood feel real has failed at once: work, money, food, sex, romance, status, independence, pride, future. He is not only saying “my food tastes bad.” He is saying, “My life has no reward loop.” That is the deepest pattern. He tried to do the responsible thing and it still felt degrading. Meal prep is supposed to symbolize agency: planning, discipline, health, money control. But in his case it becomes proof that even self-improvement has been reduced to prison behavior. Make cheap slop, go to bad job, come home alone, eat it again, repeat. Discipline without horizon becomes punishment. A lot of Gen Z men are caught there. They are told to optimize themselves inside a world that gives them no compelling reason to believe the optimization will convert into life. Lift. Budget. meal prep. stop complaining. learn skills. be confident. But confidence usually grows from wins, not lectures. If the external world keeps returning rejection, low wages, loneliness, and humiliation, self-improvement starts to feel like decorating a cell. The “never kissed a girl” line is the real detonation. That is not just sexual frustration. That is social non-recognition. For men, romantic exclusion often gets interpreted as existential exclusion: nobody chose me, nobody wanted me, nobody confirmed that my existence has magnetism. Add low-status labor and economic stagnation, and the psyche compresses it into one verdict: “I am losing at being alive.” That is why ironic despair has become the native language. If he says it as a joke, he can survive saying it. The humor is a pressure valve over real humiliation. The deepest pattern of all is uninitiated male adulthood. A grown body, no adult station. A job, no dignity. Food, no pleasure. Discipline, no pride. Sex drive, no intimacy. Time passing, no progress. That combination is spiritually corrosive. The civilizational danger is that millions of men in this condition do not become harmless forever. Some numb out. Some disappear into porn and games. Some become bitter. Some radicalize. Some become addicted. Some become permanently low-agency. Some eventually snap into discipline and rebuild themselves. But a society should not be producing this many men whose first honest description of adulthood is slavery without reward. The hard truth: sympathy is not enough. He has to get out of the loop. Better food is not the solution, but it is the first clue. A man in that state needs small wins that restore agency immediately: learn to cook one good meal, build physical strength, get around men who are not losers, move toward a trade or higher-income path, cut isolation, stop narrating himself as doomed, stack proof that his actions change reality. But the broader read remains: this is not an individual meme. This is what happens when the old masculine bargain breaks. Hard work no longer reliably gives status. Responsibility no longer reliably gives dignity. Cheap survival replaces adulthood. That is the signal

Just offered the obese Albanian business mogul sitting next to me on my international flight some of my organic coconut oil potato crisps. Lectured him about seed oils and Ray Peat. He skipped his carcinogenic airplane food, said the crisps were beyond delicious, offered to introduce me to his „handsome” son if I accept his invitation to visit his house in Greece later this summer and is now ordering a 12 pack from @sinacrisps as I write this. What do I do. I am not interested in meeting his son obvs (I’ve found my love) but we’ve got 5 hrs to Frankfurt and I’m determined to sell as many crisp packets as I can to make America (and the world) healthy again and be in Sprouts and Whole Foods by next year. Pls advise x

Next month I’ll be headed to Siena and Florence to photograph this painter’s incredible work You won’t want to miss out👀
Evan Amato@SirEvanAmato

This is Carl-Nikolas. He's 25 years old. I want to make him famous. That's why I've just commissioned his biggest painting yet: a life-sized portrait of St. Catherine of Siena. Over the coming weeks, I'm going to share the entire "making of" process with you, from sketches to studies and the inner workings of patronage itself. There are several reasons why I want to do this: 1) To shed light on the fact that there are still people making great art. Amidst the copypasta lamentations of “we don’t know how to do it anymore”, it is more important than ever to highlight those doing the real work and stewarding the flame of the Great Tradition. 2) To explore the life and spirituality of Saint Catherine of Siena. She is one of the greatest women to have ever lived, but is regularly misunderstood even by practicing Catholics. However, she's one of the best examples you can look to to navigate the chaos of the modern world. This project will help illustrate why. 3) To highlight the importance and role of patronage in the modern day. Contrary to popular belief, patronage doesn’t mean giving handouts to starving and ungrateful artists. You can still use it to build relationships and exert power. It's also never been easier to do. If you want to learn how to become a Medici-like patron in your own right, follow me for more. 4) To pour gasoline on the career of Carl-Nikolas and win him the attention he deserves. Remember, this kid is 25 years old. He wants to open an academy of sacred art in Rome one day, and I want to make that dream a reality. If you are in a position to support his work, even if just by making an introduction, DM me. --- The responsibility of passing down the Great Tradition doesn’t fall to others. It falls to each of us. As for me, I'm doing my bit. You can do yours by sharing this post and helping get the word out about Carl-Nikolas. To see more of his work, check out the replies to this post. Lastly, if you are a talented, up-and-coming artist, fill out the form in the link in my bio. I’m building a network of patrons to whom I promote hidden gems. “Great but undiscovered” is exactly what I’m looking for. The New Renaissance is upon us. The only question is, what role will you play in it?
