Mijn vrouw wil (nog) niet emigreren. Ik liever ook niet maar nu wel. De box 3-wet die de Tweede Kamer gisteren (12 feb 2026) met lange tanden heeft aangenomen, is voor mij de druppel.
Vanaf 2028 (mits Eerste Kamer akkoord) wordt box 3 een hybride vermogensaanwasbelasting:
36% over rente, dividend én ongerealiseerde winsten op aandelen, crypto, etc.
Jaarlijks belasting betalen over waardestijging die je nog niet hebt verzilverd.
Verliezen uit 2025-2027? Die kunnen niet worden meegenomen of verrekend.
Verliezen na 2028? Alleen voorwaarts verrekenbaar, geen carry-back, en bij verkoop/emigratie/overlijden vaak verloren.
Enfin, het echte morele breekpunt zit dieper. Ik kan schoorvoetend accepteren dat de overheid meedoet als ik écht winst realiseer: aandelen verkoop, bitcoin cash uit, dividend opneem. Dat is verdiend inkomen, daar valt over te discussiëren.
Maar belasting heffen over winst die alleen op papier bestaat? Winst die ik nog niet heb gezien, niet heb uitgegeven, niet heb gerealiseerd? Dat vind ik principieel onacceptabel. Moreel verwerpelijk. Het is een aanslag op privé-eigendom voordat er überhaupt iets is ‘verdiend’.
Het is een grove inbreuk op eigendomsrecht om mensen te verplichten assets te verkopen die men niet wil verkopen. Het maakt bijvoorbeeld een langdurige hodl strategie van volatiele bitcoin vrijwel onmogelijk.
Dit dwingt mensen tot suboptimaal gedrag: eerder verkopen (lock-in effect), risico mijden, of vertrekken naar een ander land.
Dus ja: 2026/2027 ga ik serieuze opties uitwerken. Portugal (NHR-regime loopt af, maar nog steeds aantrekkelijk voor pensioen/beleggers), Zwitserland (lump-sum of normale belasting, afhankelijk van kanton), of elders.
Ik hou van Nederland, maar fiscaal is het gewoon onaantrekkelijk geworden om hier te blijven. Dus ik wil realistische opties uitwerken om tijdig te vertrekken voordat er ook nog een exit belasting wordt ingevoerd.

The Netherlands is about to commit financial self-destruction. Their parliament just passed a 36% tax on unrealized gains for investments. This will cause wealthy people to move to another tax jurisdiction. People will avoid launching a new business. Stock market investing will dry up. There is too much downside risk, very little upside potential. The govt is confiscating most of the potential upside, but leaving the investor with the downside risk. The politicians know this, they have discussed it and they are concerned about it. But they did it anyways to close a short term budget gap of roughly $2 billion. As with other countries that attempted a wealth tax, it will likely backfire and result in less tax collected after wealthy people leave. The results will be so negative, the govt will reverse course within a few years. But by then the damage is already done.
