Journalism education lost two greats in the last couple of weeks, John Hudnall and Carol Lange. Both were recipients of @nationalJEA Carl Towley Award, Lange in 2008 and Hudnall in 2009. They will be missed.

@DrBradJohnson How about 35 or more? Tendency nowadays is to pack ‘em in tighter than sardines in a can. Hello administrations- the sardines are dead!

Teachers can’t meet the needs, make connections, and help students become their best when there are 30 kids in a class. Even if every student was perfectly behaved, connection has a capacity. Teachers need space, opportunity, and time to teach, not to manage crowd control.

@DrBradJohnson Learning to say no was a hard lesson for me to learn, but often it is necessary to not take on too much, both for your benefit and that of your students.

Most teachers are high in agreeableness — which means they say yes too often, help even when they’re exhausted, and feel guilty for resting. Guilty for saying no. Guilty for leaving on time. Guilty for having limits. But rest isn’t laziness — it’s recovery. And recovery is what lets you keep giving your best — without burning out the best parts of you. You don’t have to earn the right to rest.

@DrBradJohnson Truer words were never spoken. I am of the firm belief that we are all teachable - teachers and students alike!

Dear Parents—your child doesn’t need to be the smartest in the class, the best on the field, or the most talented in the room. But they do need to be teachable. We’ve raised a generation that can Google every answer, but too many are forgetting how to listen, respect, and learn. Being teachable isn’t about grades or intelligence—it’s about humility. It’s about realizing you don’t know everything and being willing to grow when someone tries to help you. As parents, we don’t need to raise perfect kids. We need to raise kids who can take feedback without falling apart. Who can apologize. Who can show respect even when they disagree. Who can be corrected without becoming combative. Because teachability will take them further than talent ever will.

We always had SEL, we just didn’t teach it in worksheets. We lived it on the playground. And research backs it up — kids learn empathy, resilience, and self-control through play and real interaction, not packets and prompts. No worksheet ever taught what a game of tag or a playground argument could.

We recently updated our guidance on the word "unique" to align with Merriam-Webster and common usage: The word can mean one of a kind, unparalleled, having no equal, etc.; or highly unusual, extraordinary, rare, etc. If used in the sense of one of a kind, don't use modifiers such as very, rather, etc. For more on this, read the Merriam-Webster usage note: merriam-webster.com/dictionary/uni…

We recently announced a change to our style for bulleted lists. Now AP style says to use periods at the end of each sentence in a bulleted list, but use no punctuation at the end of a single word or single phrase in each section of a list. Examples of phrases with no punctuation at the end: • Cat videos • Home improvement shows • Word puzzles

Hey @AmericanAir! I understand we are dealing with bad weather at DFW right now and that has disrupted flights. But why is our plane showing a 7:05 pm arrival at DFW and our departure to SAF has been pushed from 7:59 to 11:07 pm? Can’t we get out sooner?

Empowering teachers means lightening their load, not adding to it. Let's remove the weight of administrative burdens and non-teaching responsibilities, fostering a culture where educators can focus on what truly matters: inspiring minds and shaping futures.
