Today, Rwanda Revenue Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Directorate of Taxes of Madagascar to formalize partnership in taxation matters. The agreement was signed in Kigali between the RRA Commissioner General, Ronald Niwenshuti and his counterpart of Madagascar, Edmond Rafaralahy. It paves the way for the RRA to share its technological experience and electronic invoicing system, commonly known as EBM, with Madagascar.

Rwanda is making progress towards adding nuclear power to its energy mix. An IAEA Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission recently visited Rwanda to assess the country’s progress in developing the infrastructure needed for a safe, secure and sustainable nuclear power programme. Rwanda aims to have nuclear power supply 60–70% of its energy mix, with its first SMR expected to be operational in the early 2030s. The mission’s recommendations will help Rwanda further strengthen its nuclear infrastructure and advance its readiness to introduce nuclear power in line with international safety standards and global best practices. Today marked an important milestone as the Sustainability Working Group Africa (SWGA) Report on Sustainability Reporting in Africa: Rwanda was officially launched through a partnership between the ICPAR and @ACCAOfficial. The launch brought together key stakeholders to explore the report’s findings and discuss how these insights can support the continued adoption of sustainability reporting, strengthen systems and processes, and build the capacities required for effective implementation, oversight and decision-useful reporting in line with Rwanda’s roadmap for the adoption of IFRS Sustainability Standards. Drawing on ACCA’s global guidance for preparing sustainability reports and lessons from early adopters such as the Development Bank of Rwanda, East Africa Power and I&M Bank, the discussions reinforced an important message: sustainability reporting is a learning journey for both preparers and users. What matters most is starting from where organisations are today and continuing to evolve. Panafricanism starts with humility and respect for African countries in their diversity. Every nation on this continent has its own history, successes and challenges. We should then celebrate our respective achievements, address our weaknesses, while learning from those of our neighbours, without pretence or arrogance.
