Lower rates of harassment in public spaces, lower murder rates than several major states, tighter control on fraud, better prison management, these are not ideological debates, but governance outcomes. The Baluchari is one of the signature weaves of West Bengal. It gets it’s name from the village of Baluchar in Murshidabad District. When Baluchar village was submerged after a terrible flood, the weavers migrated to Bishnupur village in the Bankura District, a place famous for the terracotta temples. The terracotta tiles on the temples depicting scenes from the Hindu epics were translated into the Baluchari saree pallus as design elements. The weave was given a new life in the beginning years of the 20th century by artist Subhagendranath Thakur and Akshay Kumar Das, a weaver artisan from Bishnupur. Even today, Baluchari sarees are being woven in Bishnupur, but @AITCofficial govt neglected the cluster, while taking their cut from every subsidy that was meant for the weavers.
