Interested in face processing? Excited about developing a research program involving psychophysics, neuropsychology, perceptual development, and individual differences? The Social Perception Lab @DartmouthPBS (PI: Brad Duchaine) is searching for a postdoctoral fellow!

@Louise243 Thanks for reaching out! There can be an overlap of symptoms with other problems people might be experiencing, e.g. a person with dementia not recognizing people; doesn't necessarily mean they have prosopagnosia because a different explanantion can be given. #moreResearchNeeded

@eknahm @alex_ander I think "Weltschmerz" could be used for this feeling. Is it slightly over the top? Yes. Is it accurate? Also yes.

@alex_ander Oh no! I know the feeling, but I cannot immediately think of a word. There should be a German word for when you realize that your thought-to-be-perfect language has failed you.

there should be a german word for the feeling when you listen to an album you have fond memories of but one of the mp3’s in your old copy was corrupted and now there’s a whole new song that wasn’t there before and you feel slightly betrayed but also excited

I've started a WFH accountability/motivation group on Slack. There are channels for goal setting, memes, pets, mental health, etc. If any grad students/postdocs want to join, DM me, and I will send you an invite :)

@AdinaKrik well, maybe that's a way of making sure that nobody catches if the author made some errors in their analysis 🧐😂

Sometimes I think back to the time I asked authors for data (wanted to test a ported algorithm by reproducing their results), and, after months, got a single "raw data" .mat file with an undocumented 6000-dimensional MatLab struct & a "can't help with interpretation, sorry" 🙃

Imagine looking at a face and one half starts melting and drooping down like a Dali painting! This is what happens to people with Hemi-PMO. In collaboration with Jorge, my lab mate Sarah Herald and PI Brad Duchaine published a paper on it in Current Biology.

Do you want to know what our brain does when it sees a face? Check out my our new paper in #CurrentBiology: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #ProactionLab #neuroscience #cognitivescience

@sara_bee @gender_is_fake Hi Sara, severe difficulty recognizing people's faces is assumed to occur in 0.5% to 2% of the population without them ever having experienced any brain trauma or injury or infection. We call it developmental prosopagnosia. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions

Since 2 ppl have now told me they would act differently if they knew this, an FYI: I’m 3 months recovered from Covid & my sense of taste is STILL totally off So if the greater good/yr personal health don’t matter to you...What about the risk of GARLIC TASTING WEIRD INDEFINITELY?

@sherlyholmes @pookleblinky I know this is a haha tweet, but I’ve got faceblindness now. I can’t recognize my family. I walked right past my dad and didn’t know who he was. They don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly see faces again, which means when I get married or have kids, I won’t know their faces.
