I have lived in #Djibouti for more than two years now. It’s so beautiful to see women in this country transform their families' lives through small businesses that support livelihoods and strengthen communities. The hot season in Djibouti doesn’t stop them. They courageously endure the sunny days, so that at the end of the day, they have something to give back to their families. They inspire me day after day. Today in Djibouti, IGAD’s Executive Secretary, H.E @DrWorkneh handed over outdoor market umbrellas to Women Initiative Djibouti to support local women in growing their daily economic activities. Together with recent capacity-building trainings under the @IGADgender, today’s gesture reflects our continued commitment to women’s economic empowerment across the region. #IGADAt40

Happy International Tea Day! 🫖 Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world, but for Monica and others, it represents  something more. In 2023, CARE Tanzania and partners established the Sakare Specialty Tea Company (SSTC), the first smallholder farmer-owned specialty tea factory in Tanzania to process its own orthodox (wholeleaf) black, green, and specialty teas on-site.  Despite being unfamiliar with tea processing, Monica took a chance and applied for a job. And in October 2024, she was hired to become a processor.    care.org/news-and-stori…

For 20 years, Fozia Mohamed's mornings in Dadaab began with a 2km walk, a donkey cart, and a 3-hour wait at the water point. By the time she returned, the day was gone and cooking lunch for her 6 children wasn't possible. Fozia didn't stay silent. She joined the local water committee and pushed for change by formally requesting support from the County Department of Water. She waited and kept showing up. Then a pipeline extension was built through a partnership between @CAREinKenya and the County Department of Water which now brings clean water just 100 metres from her door. Two elevated tanks and a rehabilitated solar power with 200 households reached. "Now I am able to cook lunch for my children. Before, this was not possible." - Fozia Mohamed #CAREAlwaysThere #WaterAccess #Dadaab #CommunityLed

In western Kenya, safe drinking water in schools and health facilities was never guaranteed; until now. Through @CAREKenya's Children's Safe Drinking Water Project, supported by @ProcterGamble, rainwater harvesting systems are transforming communities. Over 16,600 people now have reliable water access across 43 schools, 25,095 learners, and 20 health facilities because institutions are co-investing and taking ownership of lasting solutions. #CAREAlwaysThere #ClimateResilience #CommunityImpact #WaterIsLife

🌍 Labour Migration: Turning Mobility into Opportunity Across the IGAD region, people move every day in search of work, skills, dignity, and better livelihoods. When well governed, labour migration strengthens economies, fills skills gaps, supports families through remittances, and deepens regional integration. IGAD is working with Member States and partners to promote safe, regular, and orderly labour mobility through policy dialogue, migration data, free movement frameworks, and decent work approaches for migrant workers. Because mobility should not be a risk. It should be a pathway to opportunity, protection, and shared prosperity. @CAREinKenya Refugee mothers and youth earn income by collecting plastic from the environment and selling to GALDO. Clean community and dignified work. This is part of @CAREKenya's 'From Camps to Green Cities' program, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark directly supporting Kenya's #ShirikaPlan to transform Dadaab into a thriving city. Refugee-hosting communities aren't just places of need. They are hubs of innovation, entrepreneurship & sustainable enterprise. #CAREAlwaysThere #ShirikaPlan #Dadaab

@CAREinKenya and other stakeholders visited GALDO, a refugee youth-led enterprise in #Dadaab doing solid waste management and upcycling. GALDO collects, segregates and bales plastic bottles, then sells them to recycling companies in Nairobi. They also turn discarded bones into handcrafted keychains and pen holders. Every item is a story of resilience. 1/2 #CAREAlwaysThere #ShirikaPlan #Dadaab @Refugees @Environment_Ke
