@nonregemesse I dont think fantasy is really worth reading aside from Tolkien. I prefer mythology or the epics.

I have only ever read Tolkien and George R. R. Martin but enjoyed both. What other fantasy is worth reading?

@untimelysalts Attributing progress to the project of the wide range of philosophical studies, implies to me that there may be an end to it. Saying there may be an end to philosophy then implies that we will no longer be human.

Arguing that there could be progress in philosophy is akin to arguing that there could be progress in morality. It's possible from a given ethical perspective to perceive "progress", just as a Kantian might perceive "progress" if everyone in the academy started becoming Kantian.
John@ErrorTheorist

Here’s a paper arguing that there is no progress in philosophy. The author claims that if Aristotle visited a modern university, he would be amazed by modern physics but feel at home in the philosophy classes, since the debates haven’t fundamentally changed. What do you think?

@fandompulse Depends on what you mean by quality. When I first picked up Oathbringer, I could finish the first paragraph because of the poor prose.

@SoulCultivated It sounds great. Aesthetics are my primary area of interest, so it seems like a great work to dive into!

@modernoverman Vitruvius is well worth reading. On Architecture is the major surviving Roman treatise on architecture.

Want to read the Romans but not sure where to start? Start here: 1. Virgil — The Aeneid What does duty require, and what does it cost? Rome’s great founding epic. The best place to begin. 2. Cicero — On Duties What do we owe each other? The clearest Roman voice on duty, obligation, and public life. 3. Plutarch — Parallel Lives What makes a life worth remembering? Statesmen, generals, founders. Best read as a study of Roman character. 4. Marcus Aurelius — Meditations How should a person govern himself under pressure? Brief reflections on duty, mortality, and governing the self. 5. Tacitus — Annals What happens to virtue under empire? A hard look at power, fear, corruption, and what remains of Roman character under bad rulers. tolle lege

@modernoverman Yes, Vitruvius wrote On Architecture (De Architectura). It’s the one work of his that survived.

Marcel Duchamp understood dialectics. To see the truth, you have to expose its contradiction. To be humorous, you need to play with that contradiction. Duchamp knew this. @MuseumModernArt

God of War director David Jaffe doubles down on describing the goblins in Crimson Desert as antisemitic: "The fact that some of these guys are like, 'Dude, it's a [expletive] goblin,' I'm sorry, you're just not smart enough to have a conversation with me. And I don't mean to be condescending about it. Yes, I know it's a goblin. I understand it's a goblin. And I also understand that there's a very high chance that people in Korea have just simply -. This has been inundated and this has been sort of concretized into our culture and they don't even know what the antisemitic tropes are about the goblin character. ... Do I think they need to change this? No. But do I think this is a reflection of those antisemitic stereotypes? Yea, I do. So what? I don't like it. The more you know better, you do better. So maybe don't do it again if you have a problem with it. But people have to make something out of everything." Did he forget that he was the one who made something out of it?
