The Minister of General Education and Instruction, one of the three African representatives on the UNESCO SDG4 HLSC, participated in the UNESCO Transforming Education Summit 4+: System Transformation and Resilience for SDG4 +4 in Paris! The conference was co-chaired by Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and included Amina Mohamed, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN. The conference resolved to commit resources to promote education, particularly in crises-affected contexts in order to attain the global educational goals. It also explored the post 2030 education agenda!

Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Minister of General Education and Instruction, met with Ms. Maysa Jalbout, Executive Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 9 July. The meeting focused on discussions regarding the forthcoming Phase III of the Multi-Year Resilience Programme (MYRP) for South Sudan. The planned ECW investment is expected to consolidate and build on the gains achieved under the previous phases of the programme. Ms. Jalbout also expressed interest in visiting South Sudan in the near future, accompanied by donor representatives, to strengthen engagement and support for the education sector.

Commemorating South Sudan Independence in Paris: South Sudan @ 15. UNESCO’s PAX, South Sudan Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and the UNESCO’s South Sudan Office commemorated South Sudan’s 15th independence anniversary at UNESCO HQs, Paris. The spotlight event, which was addressed by Dr Kuyok Abol Kuyok, the Minister of General Education and Instruction, drew a large participation from the UNESCO delegates. The event profiled UNESCO’s work in South Sudan.

Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok led a delegation from the Ministry of General Education and Instruction in a meeting with Professor Qun Chen, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, on 8 July. Held on the sidelines of the UNESCO TES+4 Conference in Paris, the meeting focused on a wide range of partnership opportunities between South Sudan and UNESCO, including support for the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) in Maridi. During the discussions, Professor Chen reaffirmed UNESCO’s commitment to supporting the CDC project and welcomed an invitation to visit South Sudan. The engagement underscored the strong collaboration between the Ministry and UNESCO in advancing education development and strengthening the country’s education sector.

Across 40 primary schools, pupils are leading a quiet revolution through Champions of Change clubs—standing up for gender equality, education, and children’s rights. By challenging harmful norms like early marriage and unequal access to education, these young advocates are helping keep more girls in school and inspiring whole communities. When children are empowered, they don’t just learn—they lead change.

The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Dr Kuyok Abol Kuyok met Dr Khaled El-Enany, the new Director General for UNESCO in Paris, France today; where he presented a congratulatory letter from HE Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of South Sudan to the Director General. They also discussed South Sudan’s nomination for inscription of the Boma-Badinglio Migratory Landscape (BBML) as a UNESCO World Heritage list in its emergency meeting in South Korea in July 2026. Lastly, the Minister took the opportunity to request UNESCO’s IBE support for establishment of the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) in Maridi. Dr El-Enany appreciated HE the President’s message and accepted his invite to visit South Sudan. More importantly, he pledged UNESCO’s support to South Sudan’s nascent education system, saying ‘count on us!’, reaffirms UNESCO’s commitment to supporting government educational programme!

The Ministry of General Education and Instruction today launched the nationwide Back-to-Learning Campaign at Kosti Primary School in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State. During the launch, Minister Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok reaffirmed the government's firm commitment to disbursing capitation grants to all schools and ensuring timely payment of teachers' salaries. Speakers called on parents and communities to enroll their children in school and remove all barriers to education.

Today, Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Minister of General Education and Instruction, announced the release of the 2025 Primary School Examination results. A total of 81,431 students (44,161 male and 37,270 female) passed out of 84,506 candidates, representing a pass rate of 96.4%. Performance showed improvement in Christian Religious Education and Science, while English and Mathematics recorded comparatively lower results. In his remarks, Dr. Kuyok advised members of the public to obtain official results from schools where candidates sat for their examinations. The public can also use the result-check application to check their results using Digitel by dialing *131# and follow the prompts with the candidate's index number.

The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, together with his technical team, today presented the 2025 National Primary Education Certificate (P8) examination results to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit. According to the report, 96.4% of the 84,506 candidates who sat for the examinations passed, including 39,079 female candidates. The President commended the timely release of the results, noting its importance for ensuring a smooth transition of learners to secondary education. He congratulated all successful candidates and urged the ministry to continue strengthening efforts to support every learner.

Major Milestone for Inclusive Education in South Sudan! Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Ministry of Gender Child and Social Welfare & University of Juba launched South Sudan's first Disability Resource Centre on Feb 26, 2026. Established by Light for the World and MYRP, the centre will support students with disabilities to access equal educational opportunities & offer barrier-free environment. In his remarks, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Omot Okony stated that this is major step toward promoting lifelong learning opportunities by 2030.

The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, held fruitful meetings at the British Parliament with key figures, including Dame Anneliese Dodds, Chair of the Sudan and South Sudan All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) and former Minister of State for Development at the FCDO. The South Sudanese delegation included H.E. Nickson Peter Deng, South Sudan’s Ambassador to the UK, and his staff. The Minister also met with Hon. Sarah Champion, Chair of the International Development Select Committee. In both discussions, Dr. Kuyok expressed appreciation to the British government and people for their generous support to education in South Sudan, and for girls’ education in particular. However, he expressed concern over cuts to UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) for education, warning that it could lead to loss of gains. The MPs agreed to raise the matter with His Majesty’s Government (HMG).

On 4, February 2026, the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) officially opened the new Project Implementation Unit (PIU) building for the Building Skills for Human Capital Development project. The inauguration was presided over by the Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok in the company of Hon. Barnaba Baak Chol, the Minister of Finance and Planning. Speaking at the event, Dr. Kuyok highlighted the PIU’s essential role in driving the project’s success. He emphasized that strong coordination and effective implementation are key to improving education outcomes and strengthening South Sudan’s human capital. Hon. Barnaba Baak Chol, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in education. He stressed that education remains central to nation-building, peace, and sustainable economic development, underscoring its importance in shaping the country’s future.

The Ministry of General Education and Instruction, in partnership with Windle Trust International, has launched the first edition of Accelerated Secondary Education Program (ASEP) condensed textbooks. The initiative introduces 20 new textbooks to strengthen alternative education pathways under the theme “Strengthening Alternative Education Pathways for National Human Capital Development.” Key targets include: - 4,000 volunteer teachers without secondary qualifications will complete their education and earn the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education. - 1,000 refugee teachers will receive Intensive English training to improve teaching quality and integration. Speaking at the launch, the Minister of General Education and Instruction, Dr. Hon. Kuyok Abol Kuyok stated that 3,433 learners (1,193 women) are enrolled across 58 ASEP centers nationwide, with enrolment ongoing till the target is achieved.
