Why did Balaam’s donkey speak in Numbers 22? Balaam was blind to the danger before him, chasing greed and disobedience. But then the impossible happened. His donkey spoke with a human voice. The Bible explains in 2nd Peter 2:16: ‘But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey, an animal without speech, who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.’ God broke the natural order to stop Balaam from walking into judgment. This shows us something powerful. The Lord can use even the simplest or most unlikely messenger to get your attention. He is not limited by human strength, wisdom or pride. If he can use a donkey to stop a prophet, then he can use any circumstance, trial or person in your life to speak truth and guide you back. His mercy is louder than stubbornness. His warnings proof of his love. The question is, will you humble your heart and listen before it’s too late?
