@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways Because we don't exist and live in a vacuum. Every person who has helped bring you to the faith, who prays for you, encourages you, helps you become closer to Christ and more like Him is involved in and helps your salvation.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways and what do you mean we aren't saved on our own, if you are saying Jesus saves, then yes, He does but He did it once for everyone forever. Nothing else saves.
English

The issue is that most Protestants don’t have a culture of veneration/reverence/honor. So when they see this, they feel disgusted.

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways How would you know what they are focused on? They are, in fact, not dead. They are more alive than you and me. Our God is not a God of the dead but of the living.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways they do nothing from you once they are dead. Absent with the body is present with the Lord. They are not focused on earthly thing just like you should be focused on heavenly things. Jesus was very specific with Tradition

I put a prompt injection into my LinkedIn bio and recruiters are messaging me in Old English and calling me Lord.
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways It matters because we aren't saved on our own. The family of God consists of earthly AND heavenly members. Death does not separate us anymore. We can befriend the heavenly members of the family of God and ask them for prayer and help just as we do with our earthly family.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways It really just comes down to what does it do for you if you do it? Its not a salvation issue, which is really the only one that matters. Who gets all the glory in the end? So does it matter?
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways If you believe that there is no evidence for icon and saint veneration or even the principle of it in scripture, that is a conclusion you have drawn for yourself.
All translations are conclusions. Your chosen hermeneutical method is a conclusion. You can't get away from it.
English

@UnseenPathways @monahven You don't get to come up with your own conclusions. That's dangerous and yes some do it, but some is on both sides. How do you read Scripture is a very important question and answer.

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways Yes, as I have. That's why I joined the Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church. Study is what led me there.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways Its not a personal interpretation, I am not at the liberty to imagine anything; words matter, context matters, so if hermenutics matter then you can read everything for yourself and decide.
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways Yes, hermeneutics matter. You're free to disagree with what I explained to you, but you're relying on your own personal interpretation and method of hermeneutics, and I have no reason to follow yours over the ancient church's.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways the issue is you're combining a bunch of different things and concepts and then using Matt 25 to bring it about. It does matter, context matters, hermenutics matters
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways Sola Scriptura is a man made tradition that came about 500 years ago.
We justify our dogmas and traditions through the living authority on the church, the body and bride of Christ who is the pillar and foundation of thruth, not our personal interpretations of scripture.
English

@UnseenPathways @monahven Objects yes, sacred, that's your word out of context. My brothers, you list out things like that and say "sacred", then this newer stuff, same difference. Its not "if then therefore" argument. Hermenutics matter.
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways That doesn't matter for recognizing the principle laid out here. The idea that the way we treat people affects our relationship with Christ (as laid out in Matt 25) is the basis of Christian ethics. It applies to everyone. It's a fundamental, basic principle.
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways ok in 25, but before, who is the audience of the letter?
English

@GLConcreteCo @UnseenPathways I explained it. It lays out the principle behind saint and icon veneration. The principle is that the honor and dishonor given to the type passes on to the prototype. Just as the honor and dishonor given to people passes on to God, the honor given to icons passes on to the saints
English

@monahven @UnseenPathways what does Matthew 25 have to do about this thread?
English

@UnseenPathways @GLConcreteCo The principle behind the type - prototype dynamic is laid out in Matt 25 in the judgement of the sheep and goats. Jesus says the good and bad things we do to people we do to Him also. Because human beings are icons of Christ. The honor and dishonor shown to us passes on to Him.
English

@UnseenPathways @GLConcreteCo Also Joshua prostrated in front of the Ark of the Covenant, and the Israelites worshipped God at the sight of (through) the pillar of cloud. Two objects which acted as a type through which worship passed on to the protoype.

I ran into this years ago. I had posted something about empathy, and in a subsequent comment chain a person got mad at me for what I was saying because they conflated empathy with sympathy.
Hunter Ash@ArtemisConsort
That liberals conflate understanding someone (empathy) with agreeing with or feeling sorry for them (sympathy) probably explains why they have such an abysmally bad understanding of conservatives. In their minds, understanding us on our own terms would be to agree with us.
