We’ve had a good start to harvest in West Cornwall, Caravelle barely doing 3-3.4t/ac, with 1.6t/ac straw. Lots of idiot cubes made 😁 looking very catchy for the wheat harvest, starting yesterday at 19.5% 🤦‍♂️ #harvest24

We’re really busy on sand spreading, haylage and hay this week, plus tidying up for our @OpenFarmSunday this weekend, but still finding a couple hours to host a local school visit. Love their enthusiasm and zest for a look round the farm 👌

A quick quick look at our lupins on Friday with DT from Riviera Produce, Becky from Farm Carbon Neutral and Steffan from the Alt-Soya project. A long term aim of ours is to reduce our reliance on soya for milling our chicken feed. One step in the right direction 👌

Zero insecticides, herbicides, fungicides or PGRs used on this field of Extase. Inputs so far are an application of slug pellets back in the autumn, 130kg/ha N and a few micronutrients.

I might be surprised by this Dawsum after all. Some thumping ears in the crop, might make up for its uneven appearance. The combine always has the last laugh…

Knew we had nozzle filters for a good reason. The T2 chemistry is good at cleaning the sprayer!

@AshleyDaveJones @Tamblyn_Ben @DavidButler34 That’s £18,000 per 1000 litres on the shelf. Crude rapeseed for animal feed under £1000 per 1000 litres and there’ll still be margin to be had somewhere. Who’s shafting who 🤷‍♂️

Had to buy a few bits’n’bobs in the CoOp this evening including cooking oil. Noticed the wild prices for olive oil which I’d heard about. These’ll get a security tag before long!

Probably be the most expensive spray pass I’ve ever done but hopefully it will be worth it 😅🤞 potential is there so no holding back at the last 😬

Something about this time of year, crops springing out the ground, winter crops motoring through the growth stages. After a long winter, it’s so satisfying to see potential!

Good look at soil structure in different crops and rotations today. Less is more on cultivation, any David Attenborough’s care to identify the white soil insect/bug?! #croprotation #soilstructure

Can’t argue with that in Caravelle winter barley, clean leaves all the way. Grower chased the weather opportunities and looking promising for harvest 🌾

@KWSUKLtd Dawsum wheat waking up a bit now. It’s been on the go-slow since drilling, hoping the yield potential will also wake up as it’s looking decidedly average compared to the @DSVUKSEEDS Champion. Dog for scale, no bananas to hand 😂
