@nilikm I wish my oncologist would. Now people aren’t even masking in our chemo room. I have to unmask to take meds. It’s very frustrating.

On Ivy League campuses today, if you cried out “All blacks must die,” you'd be suspended & canceled. If you cried out “All LGBTQ people must die,” you'd be suspended & canceled. If you cried out “All Jews must die,” the university presidents will need to know about the context.
Bill Ackman@BillAckman

The presidents of @Harvard, @MIT, and @Penn were all asked the following question under oath at today’s congressional hearing on antisemitism: Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate [your university’s] code of conduct or rules regarding bullying or harassment? The answers they gave reflect the profound moral bankruptcy of Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth. Representative @EliseStefanik was so shocked with the answers that she asked each of them the same question over and over again, and they gave the same answers over and over again. In short, they said: It ‘depends on the context’ and ‘whether the speech turns into conduct,’ that is, actually killing Jews. This could be the most extraordinary testimony ever elicited in the Congress, certainly on the topic of genocide, which to remind us all is: “the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group” The presidents’ answers reflect the profound educational, moral and ethical failures that pervade certain of our elite educational institutions due in large part to their failed leadership. Don’t take my word for it. You must watch the following three minutes. By the end, you will be where I am. They must all resign in disgrace. If a CEO of one of our companies gave a similar answer, he or she would be toast within the hour. Why has antisemitism exploded on campus and around the world? Because of leaders like Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth who believe genocide depends on the context. To think that these are the leaders of Ivy League institutions that are charged with the responsibility to educate our best and brightest. On the bright side, our congressional leaders deserve accolades for showing tremendous leadership and moral clarity in their statements, by the questions they asked, and the respectfulness with which they conducted the hearing. It was a masterclass of how our government and democracy should operate. If you have time, please watch the entire hearing. Throughout the hearing, the three behaved like hostile witnesses, exhibiting a profound disdain for the Congress with their smiles and smirks, and their outright refusal to answer basic questions with a yes or no answer.

This kind of duplicity ruins masking for the rest of us. It skews perception of maskers as being not law abiding and gives ammunition to policymakers to ban masks.

I'll never deny how I got long covid. I believed the public messaging that it would be mild for me. I didn't know about LC. I prioritized socializing over health because I was BORED. No one I knew at that point had a severe infection or bad lingering issues. I was wrong.

At today's congressional hearing on the shameful surge in campus antisemitism @RepStefanik asks: Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your school's code of conduct? President of @MIT: Something something context something something President of @Penn: Something something context something something President of @Harvard: Something something depending on the context The context is that they are Jewish students. If this were any other minority group, there would be no equivocation.

Secretary Hillary Clinton’s full remarks today at the UN session led by the State of Israel on sexual and gender based violence on October 7: “As you well know, many women and girls were attacked brutally by Hamas on October 7th, and they have testified to the gender based violence that they both experienced and witnessed. As a global community, we must respond to weaponized sexual violence wherever it happens, with absolute condemnation. There can be no justifications and no excuses. Rape as a weapon of war is a crime against humanity. Such atrocities have no place in any society or any conflict. Organizations, governments, and individuals who are committed to a better future for women and girls have a responsibility to condemn all violence against women. It is outrageous that some who claim to stand for justice are closing their eyes and their hearts to the victims of Hamas. But amid such inhumanity, we can also see women leading the way forward, As is so often the case. I have met survivors of sexual and gender based violence all over the world. They are the ones who inspire me with their incredible courage and resolve. And I have seen first hand that women are not just victims of war, they are agents of peace. That's why I championed Security Council resolutions recognizing the unique impact of conflict on women and girls and the importance of women in peacekeeping and security, and mandating that peacekeeping missions protect women and girls from sexual violence in areas of armed conflict. You know women on both sides of the current conflict in the Middle East have long worked for a just and lasting peace. I have grieved with Israeli women who have lost loved ones to terrorist attacks, but refuse to believe that peace is impossible. I have talked and listened to Palestinian women who have suffered greatly from the conflicts of the past decades, yet dream of a peaceful future and a state of their own. We honor all the brave women on the front lines of conflict by lifting up their voices and bearing witness to the crimes they have endured. I urge everyone present to make your position clear. We stand for the safety and equality of women always and everywhere, from Ukraine to the Middle East, to Sudan to the Democratic Republic of Congo everywhere, and we unequivocally condemn the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th.”

@GailVazOxlade My mom told me she had German measles when pregnant with me. 😬 I had chicken pox around age 4 or 5. I got the MMR vaccine after my second child when a nurse said I was no longer showing immunity to rubella (German measles). I had been vaccinated as a child for measles.

@deonandan Hmm, after my son was born a nurse said I wasn’t showing immunity to German measles anymore. I guess they test this during labour? 🤷🏼‍♀️ She insisted I get vaccinated again (as in, she was already holding the syringe, lol). So I’m guessing it was MMR and I’m good to go now? Hope so.

@markeology Think of the elements. A bath, or just washing your face. Fresh air, standing at your open door or opening a window briefly. Light a candle and watch the flame. Houseplant, for sure.

Chronically ill friends: My therapist wants me to interact with nature more, but I'm not exactly up for a stroll in the woods most days, y'know? What are some low-impact things you do that connect you to nature? Houseplants? A bucket of dirt next to your bed to stick your feet in?

@AutisticCallum_ Yes! I learned to make fun of myself before others had a chance, just as a way of self-preservation. “Can’t hurt me, I already thought of it!” No wonder I’m good at predicting things. I had to keep a step ahead to anticipate how I’d be treated.
