Ken Paxton is throwing everything he has at us. He’s called me a radical leftist. He’s called me a fake Christian. He’s even called me a vegan! I’m an 8th generation Texan — I've been eating BBQ since before Ken Paxton’s first indictment.

A quiet child sat for a portrait in 1934… unaware she would one day become the most enduring monarch of the modern age. Elizabeth II, then known as Princess Elizabeth of York, was photographed on 1 November 1934 by the celebrated royal portraitist Marcus Adams. At just eight years old, she was already part of a carefully documented royal childhood, as Adams had been commissioned to capture intimate, dignified portraits of Britain’s younger royals since the mid-1920s. Seated calmly in a composed half-length pose, the young princess appears both natural and deliberately poised. Her direct gaze and controlled posture reflect the unique position she occupied: still a child, yet already growing up within the visibility of the monarchy. The photograph avoids excessive formality, instead emphasizing personality, innocence, and the quiet discipline expected of a royal upbringing. Marcus Adams was particularly known for his ability to bring warmth and humanity into royal portraiture. Unlike rigid ceremonial images, his work often captured subtle expressions and natural presence. Through his lens, Princess Elizabeth is not only a future monarch in training but also a child with a calm temperament and early signs of the steadiness that would later define her public life. As the daughter of George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Elizabeth’s early life was shaped by duty, stability, and a strong sense of continuity within the monarchy. Even in childhood portraits like this one, there is a sense of composure that would later become one of her most defining public qualities. Today, this 1934 image stands as more than a simple royal portrait. It is an early glimpse of a future queen whose life would span nearly a century of transformation, war, and change — captured in a single moment of stillness, long before history gave her a crown. © Historical Stories
