I've thought about this before, but reading this with my morning coffee reminded me of the huge disconnect between urban Southern NH and the mostly rural rest of the state. The only way Manchester is "the heart of central New Hampshire" is if you think Concord is the northern extreme of the state. I know the idea of #NHexit is popular in some circles (NH leaving the USA and becoming it's own nation) but that's not going to happen. But hear me out. Our neighbors in Maine have the same issue. So here's my plan. Coos, Carroll and Grafton counties split off from the rest of the state. Maybe toss in the northern halves of Sullivan and Belknap counties too. That's roughly dividing the state in half by area. Sounds pretty fair to me. Northern NH and northern ME merge together and become the new New Hampshire, and Southern NH and southern ME merge to become the new ME. I'm not married to the names, I am just getting tired of people who chose to live on top of each other trying to change zoning so they can expand into the areas where people just want to be left the fuck alone. Flip em if ya want so @FreeStateNH doesn't have to change their @ name.

THIS! I have friend who has been legally blind since birth. If anyone "deserves" to not work and get free healthcare, it's him. But no, he works. He actually owns a car; not because he can drive it, but he want's to ensure that if someone else has to drive him someplace, they are not responsible for the costs and they have a reliable vehicle. He owns his own home. No, he's not happy he's disabled, but he doesn't expect others to bear his burden.

That of course is a personal choice. For us, that 1% down time means my wife has to drive 2hrs to her office to work. It means that in an emergency, nobody can contact us, and we have to get in a vehicle and drive to reach the outside world. Both things are most likely to happen during the worst possible conditions. I don't like paying for home, health and vehicle insurance either... until I need them.

@davec_NH @Mopar @NiktNiemand Did same last year, love(ed) the service and def beats Consolidated but just got notified that my monthly service goes from $59 to 85 in June. Same sh1t different dish. NHEC broadband is $49. Trying to decide if 100% uptime vs 99% is worth $36/month.

Just had STARLINK installed - so far i am very impressed. I will give it a few weeks and then cancel my broadband account and cut the cord.

My wife needs really fast internet as well, since she WFH. However, she also needs reliability, and that is not something cable or fiber offer in rural settings. With all the utilities running above ground, there is a pretty good chance of losing service in bad weather. Starlink works without the grid. As long as our battery backup and generator work, we have internet. Again, especially important since out here we have no cell service at home, and landlines go down with the power and cable. Starlink keeps us connected in emergencies. @StairDubs @davec_NH Fidium sucks here. They had an outage here a few months ago that took a week to restore because they don't have their own crews, and they couldn't find an available subcontractor any sooner.
